The Magnum Research MLR .22 WMR bolt-action rifle bridges the gap between precision target work and nimble field hunting. Chambered in the popular .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire, this straight-bolt rifle delivers the reliability and accuracy you expect from a manual-action platform, without the complexity of a semi-auto. At just 5.45 pounds with a compact 37.5-inch overall length, it's handy enough for small-game hunting, varmint control, or dedicated rimfire target shooting—and the 19-inch threaded barrel opens the door to suppressors and other muzzle devices for customization.

The rifle comes dressed in a Hogue black stock that provides a comfortable, controllable grip for shooting. The manual straight-bolt action with spring-assisted closing keeps things simple and reliable; there's no complex gas system to foul or magazine-feed reliability to worry about. A single 9-round magazine feeds rounds cleanly, and the 20 MOA Picatinny rail mounted to the receiver makes it trivial to bolt on whatever optic suits your mission—from a compact rimfire scope to a magnified precision setup.

This is a rifle for shooters who value straightforward function and don't mind working the bolt. Whether you're ringing steel at distance, hunting rabbits and squirrels, or teaching someone to shoot with minimal recoil and noise, the MLR offers honest accuracy and the handling you'd expect from Magnum Research's engineering heritage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the .22 WMR suitable for hunting small game and varmints?

Yes. The .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire is a capable field cartridge for rabbits, squirrels, and small varmints at moderate range. It delivers more velocity and energy than standard .22 LR, with manageable recoil and noise—ideal for property work or hunting where you need reliable, accurate hits on small targets.

Can I mount a suppressor on this rifle?

The 19-inch barrel is threaded, which makes it compatible with threaded .22 WMR suppressors and other muzzle devices. You'll need to verify that any device you choose is rated for .22 WMR and check local and federal suppressor laws before purchasing or installing.

What's included in the box?

The rifle ships with one 9-round magazine. Scope, mounts, ammunition, and other accessories are not included; you'll need to source an optic to take advantage of the Picatinny rail.

What kind of scope should I mount on this rifle?

The 20 MOA Picatinny rail is ready for any standard-mount rifle scope. For .22 WMR hunting and varminting, rimfire-optimized scopes in the 2–7x or 3–9x range are popular; for target work at distance, higher magnification is an option. The spring-assisted straight bolt action works well with lower-power optics for quick follow-ups.
