The Magnum Research BFR .480 Ruger/.475 Linebaugh revolver with 7.5" barrel and Bisley grips is built for hunters and handgun enthusiasts who demand serious stopping power in a single-action magnum revolver. The BFR (Biggest Finest Revolver) line has earned its reputation among big-game hunters, hard-core handgun shooters, and backcountry adventurers who need a weapon they can trust in extreme conditions. This stainless steel five-shot delivers the raw capability of cartridges purpose-built for maximum energy and penetration.

The 7.5" barrel provides the velocity and sight radius serious hunters need for clean, ethical kills at extended ranges. Brushed stainless steel construction resists the corrosion that comes with field use, sweat, and weather exposure—no babying required. Factory-fitted black fixed front and adjustable rear sights allow field-accurate aiming without optics, though the long sight radius supports custom scope mounting for those who prefer it. Bisley-pattern grips offer a high grip angle and aggressive checkering for control, especially important when managing the potent recoil of these magnum cartridges.

The 15-inch twist rate and .475" groove diameter are engineered specifically for .480 Ruger and .475 Linebaugh ammunition, which push heavy bullets to velocities capable of dropping elk, moose, and other large game at distances most handgun hunters never attempt. A crisp 3–4 lb trigger pull supports precision shot placement. Weighing 3.7 lbs with an overall length of 17.5" and width of 1.75", it strikes a balance between manageable weight for field carry and mass enough to manage recoil and maintain accuracy through follow-up shots.

This is not a gun for flinchers or the gun-counter curious. The BFR is purpose-built for hunters committed to handgun hunting at ranges that demand both rifle-class power and absolute dedication to shot placement. Whether you're hunting dangerous game or simply exploring the outer edge of what's possible with a wheelgun, the Magnum Research BFR is engineered to perform.

Frequently Asked Questions

What cartridges does the Magnum Research BFR fire?

The BFR chambers both .480 Ruger and .475 Linebaugh, two of the most powerful handgun cartridges available. Both are purpose-built for hunting large game and long-range handgun work. The revolver's 15-inch twist and .475" groove diameter are optimized for these magnum loads.

Is this revolver suitable for big-game hunting?

Yes. The BFR line is widely used by handgun hunters pursuing elk, moose, and dangerous game. The combination of magnum cartridge power, 7.5" barrel velocity, and a 3–4 lb trigger supports the precision required for ethical hunting at extended ranges.

What sights does it come with, and can I mount a scope?

The BFR comes with a factory black fixed front sight and adjustable rear sight, both suitable for field shooting. The long 7.5" barrel and 17.5" overall length provide good sight radius. Custom scope mounting options may be available through gunsmiths familiar with the BFR platform, though the revolver is designed to perform without optics.

How much does this revolver weigh, and is it portable for backcountry hunting?

The BFR weighs 3.7 lbs, making it lighter than many carbines but substantial enough to manage magnum recoil. Its 17.5" overall length keeps it reasonably compact for a full-power magnum revolver. Backcountry hunters often appreciate the reliability and stopping power of a wheelgun, though the magnum cartridges and recoil management require experience and discipline.
