The Magnum Research BFR 10" .460 S&W Magnum revolver in brushed stainless steel is purpose-built for hunters and shooters who demand serious stopping power and reliability in a wheel gun. BFR stands for "Big Frame Revolver," and this 10-inch barrel variant delivers exactly that: a full-size, heavy-hitting revolver engineered to handle one of the most powerful production revolver cartridges available. The .460 S&W Magnum is known for extreme velocity and energy, making it a legitimate choice for hunting large game and long-range handgun work where precision and power matter.

Built from brushed stainless steel, this revolver combines corrosion resistance with a classic, no-nonsense aesthetic. The 10-inch barrel maximizes velocity and sight radius, giving you better accuracy potential than shorter options. At 4.7 pounds and 17.5 inches overall, it's a substantial handful—designed for two-handed shooting and mounted on a solid frame built to manage heavy recoil. The five-round cylinder is typical of big-bore magnum revolvers; capacity is sacrificed for the ability to fire ammunition that generates serious energy downrange.

Sighting is straightforward: a fixed black front sight and adjustable rear sight allow you to dial in your zero. The trigger breaks at 3-4 pounds, giving you a reasonable, controllable press for deliberate shooting. Whether you're hunting hog, bear, or putting rounds downrange at the magnum revolver range, the BFR's reputation for durability and performance speaks for itself among serious revolver enthusiasts.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the .460 S&W Magnum, and what is it used for?

The .460 S&W Magnum is a powerful handgun cartridge designed for hunting large game and long-range revolver shooting. It's one of the most potent production revolver rounds, favored by hunters pursuing hog, bear, and other large game, as well as shooters interested in extended-range handgun work and magnum revolver competitions.

Why does the BFR have only five rounds in the cylinder?

Revolvers chambered in extreme magnum cartridges like the .460 S&W use five-round cylinders rather than six because the larger, more powerful ammunition requires thicker cylinder walls and frame construction to safely contain the pressure. This design prioritizes safety and durability over round count.

Is the 10-inch barrel good for hunting?

Yes. The longer 10-inch barrel extends sight radius for better accuracy and allows the .460 S&W Magnum to achieve optimal velocity and energy, making it well-suited for hunting applications where precision and power downrange are important. The added length also helps manage recoil.

Can I adjust the rear sight for different ranges?

Yes, the revolver features an adjustable rear sight, allowing you to zero and adjust for different shooting distances and load combinations within the scope of your intended use.
