The KelTec P17 .22LR pistol is a lightweight, feature-rich rimfire option built for shooters who value portability without sacrificing capability. At under 14 ounces unloaded and measuring just 6.65 inches overall, this compact .22LR handgun strikes a practical balance between concealability and shootability—making it equally at home in a pack, on a nightstand, or at the range. Whether you're introducing a new shooter to centerfire fundamentals or running dedicated .22 training sessions, the P17 delivers the performance and value of a full-size platform in a package that doesn't demand much space.

Out of the box, you get a threaded 3.93-inch barrel (1/2-28 TPI), a Picatinny-style rail for mounting optics or lights, and three 16-round magazines—genuine capacity that keeps you in the fight during extended shooting sessions. The fiber optic front sight and adjustable rear sight combine with a refined trigger to help you extend accuracy past what you'd expect from a gun this size. Ambidextrous safety and magazine release mean lefty and righty shooters both operate the gun instinctively, no learning curve required.

The .22LR chambering makes the P17 a budget-friendly trainer that builds shooter confidence through low recoil and minimal noise. It's the kind of gun that helps new shooters focus on fundamentals—sight picture, trigger control, stance—without flinching or fighting muzzle rise. For experienced marksmen, it's a logical choice for skill maintenance when ammo costs and range time matter.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the KelTec P17 good for training new shooters?

Yes. The .22LR cartridge produces minimal recoil and noise, allowing new shooters to focus on fundamentals like grip, sight picture, and trigger control without fighting the gun. The light weight and manageable handling characteristics make it an ideal platform for building confidence and shot consistency before moving to center-fire calibers.

What's included in the box?

The P17 comes with three 16-round magazines and is ready to shoot. The threaded barrel is installed, and the Picatinny rail is integrated into the frame.

Can I suppress the KelTec P17?

The barrel is threaded 1/2-28 TPI, which is standard for .22LR suppressors. You'll need to source a suppressor rated for .22LR separately and ensure compliance with all local and federal regulations.

Is the KelTec P17 suitable for concealed carry?

At 6.65 inches long and under 14 ounces loaded, the P17 is compact and lightweight enough for many carry methods. Whether it suits your specific carry plan depends on your holster setup and personal preference, but the size and weight are favorable for concealment.
