The Kel-Tec RDB Defender is a lightweight bullpup rifle chambered in 223 Rem/5.56 NATO that bridges the gap between compact handling and practical firepower. Built on a proven platform, the RDB Defender delivers the maneuverability of a short overall length with the ballistic capability of a rifle-length cartridge—making it an appealing choice for shooters who value both tactical versatility and ease of handling in confined spaces, vehicles, or property defense scenarios.

What sets the RDB Defender apart is its attention to keeping weight minimal without sacrificing usability. The pencil profile barrel, aluminum M-LOK handguard, and collapsible stock work together to deliver a rifle that won't fatigue you during extended use or storage in vehicles and cabinets. At just 6.7 lbs unloaded, it's genuinely handy—the kind of rifle you might actually keep accessible rather than locked away. The 1:7 twist rate stabilizes a wide range of 223/5.56 ammunition, from lighter varmint loads to heavier tactical rounds, giving you flexibility at the range or in the field.

Magazine compatibility is straightforward: the RDB Defender feeds from standard AR15 magazines, including 30-round capacity and beyond. That means you're not locked into proprietary magazines or limited by odd capacity restrictions. The trigger breaks at a predictable 4.5–5.5 lbs—crisp enough for precision work without being hair-trigger sensitive. The collapsible stock adjusts for shooters of different builds and accommodates body armor if needed, while the M-LOK handguard accepts a full ecosystem of rails, lights, and accessories without adding unnecessary bulk.

Whether you're interested in a modern defensive rifle, a compact ranch gun, or a capable 5.56 platform that doesn't demand a lot of physical real estate, the RDB Defender delivers serious capability in a remarkably compact footprint.

Frequently Asked Questions

What magazines work with the RDB Defender?

The RDB Defender accepts standard AR15 magazines, including 30-round capacity and above. You can use any AR15-compatible magazine you already own, making it easy to build a common ammunition and magazine ecosystem across multiple rifles.

Is the RDB Defender good for home defense and property protection?

Yes. The compact overall length of 27" and lightweight 6.7 lb profile make it easy to maneuver in tight spaces and vehicles. The 5.56 NATO chambering provides effective stopping power with good ballistic performance, and the collapsible stock lets you adjust the rifle to your fit. It's a capable choice for shooters prioritizing handling and accessibility.

Can I customize the RDB Defender with tactical accessories?

Absolutely. The aluminum M-LOK handguard accepts industry-standard M-LOK accessories for lights, lasers, and rail attachments without requiring tools. The platform is designed for tactical versatility and customization.

What ammunition does the 1:7 twist rate handle best?

The 1:7 twist rate is one of the fastest common twists for the .223 platform, stabilizing both light and heavy bullets effectively. You can shoot everything from lighter varmint rounds to heavier 77+ grain tactical loads, giving you flexibility for range use, hunting, or defensive applications.
