The Heritage Rough Rider 22LR 6.5" revolver is a no-nonsense rimfire single-action handgun built for backyard plinking, pest control, and learning the fundamentals of wheelgun shooting without breaking the bank. This all-black configuration pairs a black oxide frame and cylinder with a black hammer, trigger, and laminate grip—clean, functional, and purposeful. Whether you're knocking over tin cans, managing varmints around the homestead, or just enjoying affordable trigger time, the Rough Rider delivers reliable single-action performance in a compact, handheld package.
Like Heritage's larger-frame revolvers, the Rough Rider maintains a classic Western profile and precision single-action mechanism, but in a scaled-down rimfire platform that's easy on ammo costs and recoil. The fixed front sight and rear notch sight are straightforward and adequate for close-range work. At 11.78 inches overall length and 5.25 inches in height, it's proportional and manageable—a genuine alternative to modern semi-auto .22s if you prefer the tactile simplicity of a revolver.
Chambered in .22 LR, the six-round capacity keeps the cylinder compact, and the manual safety provides an extra layer of control. The right-hand twist rifling is standard for .22 LR performance. Black laminate grips offer durability without fuss, and the all-black finish resists show—ideal if you want a tool rather than a showcase piece. This is honest, entry-level revolver engineering: proven mechanics, minimal features, maximum reliability at a price that doesn't require a second mortgage.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this a good revolver for beginners or learning single-action mechanics?
Yes. The Rough Rider's simple, proven single-action design is ideal for shooters new to wheelguns or single-action operation. Low recoil and affordable .22 LR ammo let you focus on fundamentals without flinching or breaking the bank.
What is the all-black finish, and is it durable?
The frame and cylinder are finished in black oxide, a rust-resistant coating that gives the gun a uniform, no-fuss appearance. Black laminate grips and matching black hammer and trigger complete the look. Black oxide is durable for regular use and field carry, though like any blued steel it benefits from basic maintenance.
Can I use this revolver for pest control or plinking on a property?
The .22 LR chambering and fixed sights make it well-suited to casual plinking, tin-can shooting, and light varmint work at close range. The six-round capacity and manual safety give you straightforward control. For larger pests or longer distances, a larger caliber would be more appropriate.
Does Heritage make a two-cylinder combo version of this model?
Heritage does offer Rough Rider revolvers with interchangeable cylinders allowing you to shoot both .22 LR and .22 WMR. This particular model comes with one .22 LR cylinder only.
