The Henry American Eagle is a .22 lever action rifle that stands out as much for its craftsmanship as for its shootability. Built on Henry's proven Golden Boy platform, this Model H004AE combines a stunning aesthetic with the smooth, quick action that's made Henry lever guns favorites among rimfire shooters, target competitors, and collectors alike. If you're looking for a .22 lever action that turns heads at the range while delivering genuine accuracy and reliability, this is it.

What sets the American Eagle apart is its distinctive ivory-colored American walnut furniture and deep hand engraving. The buttstock features aggressive checkering at the wrist flowing into leafy vine scrollwork that frames an engraved American bald eagle and script lettering. The forearm carries matching checkering and flowing scrollwork surrounding Henry's name. This isn't production-line wood finish—the ivory coloring is built through multiple primer and color applications, sanded between coats to highlight the grain, then engraved and sealed. The result is a rifle that looks as good in a collector's cabinet as it does on a hunting trip.

Functionally, the American Eagle handles like a classic rimfire lever gun should. The 20-inch deeply blued octagonal barrel provides crisp accuracy, topped with a fully adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight and brass bead front sight. The nickel-plated receiver cover, buttplate, and barrel band create striking contrast against the blued steel and ivory wood. The rifle accepts .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle ammunition—holding 21 Short or 16 LR rounds—making it practical for everything from small-game hunting to plinking to serious target work. It's also drilled and tapped for scope mounting if you prefer optics over iron sights.

At 6.75 pounds and 38.5 inches overall, the American Eagle handles cleanly. The 1/4 cock safety is intuitive, and the lever action is smooth enough that follow-up shots come naturally. Whether you're a .22 enthusiast building a collection, a hunter pursuing small game, or a rimfire competitor, this Henry delivers both substance and style.

Frequently Asked Questions

What ammunition does the Henry American Eagle shoot?

The American Eagle accepts .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle ammunition. You can load any of these three types and the rifle will cycle and fire all of them reliably. Magazine capacity is 21 rounds for Short or 16 rounds for LR.

Can I mount a scope on this rifle?

Yes. The American Eagle is drilled and tapped for scope mounting using a GB-CSM mount type, so you have the option to add optics if you prefer them to the included semi-buckhorn and brass bead iron sights.

What makes the wood finish on this rifle different?

The ivory-colored walnut furniture is unique to the American Eagle. The finish is built through multiple applications of primer and ivory color, sanded between coats to showcase the wood grain. The stocks and forearm are then deeply hand-engraved with an American bald eagle, scrollwork, and script lettering, then sealed with a protective fixative.

Is this rifle suitable for hunting, or is it mainly a collector's piece?

The American Eagle is built for all three: target shooting, hunting small game, and collecting. It's based on Henry's reliable Golden Boy lever action platform and delivers solid accuracy with a smooth, quick action—everything you need for practical rimfire use, not just display.
