The Henry Big Boy Side Gate .44 Mag lever action rifle combines classic American gunmaking with practical refinements that make it equally at home at the range, in the field, or on display. This 20" octagon-barrel rifle chambers the powerful .44 Magnum cartridge—a round respected by hunters pursuing medium to large game and shooters who demand knockdown authority. The large loop lever action cycles smoothly and intuitively, while the new side loading gate speeds up reloading without sacrificing the rifle's traditional profile.

Built for shooters who value heritage and reliability, the Big Boy Side Gate delivers honest craftsmanship. The polished hardened brass receiver provides durability and visual character, while the American walnut furniture feels solid and properly finished. An octagon blued steel barrel resists corrosion and looks right for a rifle that respects its lineage. At 8.68 pounds and 38.5 inches overall, it balances manageability with steady aim. The semi-buckhorn rear sight with diamond insert and brass bead front sight are fully adjustable, letting you dial in your zero quickly—and the drilled and tapped receiver accepts modern optics when you're ready to upgrade your setup.

The 10-round capacity is practical for hunting or extended shooting sessions, and the transfer bar safety keeps you secure throughout the gun's lifespan. Whether you're testing handloads at the bench, hunting whitetail and hog, or adding to a lever-action collection, the Big Boy Side Gate handles the job without compromise. This is a rifle that works hard and looks good doing it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I mount a scope on the Henry Big Boy Side Gate?

Yes. The receiver is drilled and tapped to accept a scope mount, and the rifle comes with a BB-RSM mount included. The adjustable buckhorn sights work great for hunting and range work, but the rifle easily transitions to modern optics if that's your preference.

What's the difference between .44 Magnum and .44 Special in this rifle?

The Henry Big Boy Side Gate chambers both cartridges. The .44 Magnum delivers significantly more power, making it the choice for hunting larger game and reaching out to distance. The .44 Special is a milder, easier-shooting option—ideal for plinking, training, or shooters who prefer lighter recoil.

Is the side loading gate reliable for hunting?

Yes. The side loading gate speeds up reloading between shots or when topping off, but it doesn't change the rifle's core reliability. The traditional lever action cycles the same way it always has, and the gate is engineered for durability.

What does the large loop lever do?

The large loop lever gives you more room to work the action quickly, even with gloves on. It cycles the same as a standard lever but feels more intuitive for many shooters, especially in cold weather or fast-paced hunting scenarios.
