The Henry Big Boy Steel Side Gate Large Loop .357 Mag lever action rifle delivers classic American rifle heritage with modern conveniences that make it equally at home on the range or in the field. Built around a large loop lever that's generous enough for gloved hands and quick follow-up shots, this rifle chambers the versatile .357 Magnum cartridge—a round that works double duty as a .38 Special platform and offers legitimate stopping power for hunting medium game out to reasonable distances. The 20-inch blued steel barrel keeps the rifle handy in brush or from a vehicle while maintaining sight radius and velocity, and the overall length of 37.5 inches makes it a natural for hunters who prize maneuverability.

The walnut stock and blued receiver give this Henry the timeless look you expect from a quality lever gun, but the real-world features matter more: a side gate loading mechanism (no more wrestling with a tube magazine), a transfer bar safety that lets you carry the rifle safely with a full magazine, and 10-round capacity for follow-up opportunities. The fully adjustable rear semi-buckhorn sight with diamond insert and brass bead front sight are battle-tested classics; if you want to modernize, the receiver is drilled and tapped for scope mounts. At 7 pounds, it's light enough to carry all day without becoming a chore, and the rubber recoil pad handles the .357's modest kick with aplomb.

This is a rifle that rewards shooters who understand lever guns aren't relics—they're purpose-built platforms that cycle as fast as your hands can move, handle at close quarters better than most rifles, and deliver more charm and reliability than modern marketing wants to admit. Whether you're plinking, hunting deer-sized game, or just enjoying the mechanics of a well-made American rifle, the Henry Big Boy Steel side gate is a no-nonsense choice that won't nickel-and-dime you with proprietary parts or finicky operation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I shoot .38 Special in the Henry Big Boy Steel Side Gate .357 Mag?

Yes. The rifle is chambered for .357 Magnum/.38 Special, so you can safely fire either cartridge. Many shooters appreciate this flexibility for practice, reduced recoil shooting, or simply economics—.38 Special is often easier on the wallet.

What's included with the rifle, and do I need to buy additional accessories?

The rifle comes equipped with iron sights (rear and front), swivel studs for a sling, and a rubber recoil pad. If you want to mount an optic, the receiver is drilled and tapped for the BB-RSM scope mount system, which you would purchase separately. A sling is not included.

Is this a good hunting rifle, and what size game is it suitable for?

The .357 Magnum is a capable medium-game cartridge suitable for hunting deer and similar-sized game at reasonable distances. The 20-inch barrel, handy overall length, and quick-cycling lever action make it practical for hunters who value maneuverability in brush or from vehicles. Always follow local hunting regulations and check ammunition requirements for your area.

Will the large loop slow down my shot speed compared to a standard lever?

No. The large loop is deliberately designed to accommodate gloved hands and actually enable faster cycling because your hand stays in a better position throughout the stroke. It's a feature, not a compromise.
