The Great Lakes Firearms .223 Wylde 16" black rifle is a versatile, semi-automatic platform built for shooters who demand accuracy and flexibility without compromise. Built around the .223 Wylde chamber, this rifle shoots both .223 Remington and 5.56 NATO ammunition—giving you real flexibility at the range or in the field. With a 16-inch heavy barrel, carbine-length gas system, and full-length Picatinny rail handguard, the GL15223SSCHY strikes a practical balance between handling and precision, making it equally at home in competition, hunting, or serious practice.

The rifle's foundation is solid: a 7075 aluminum upper and lower receiver, 7075 aluminum frame, and your choice of either 416R stainless steel or 4150 CRMOV nitride barrel—both treated with Cerakote finish for durability. The 16-inch heavy barrel sports a 1:8 twist rate optimized for a wide range of .223 and 5.56 loads, and threads are cut to 1/2 x 28 for standard suppressors or brakes. The included muzzle brake is engineered to tighten to 6 degrees forward without Loctite, so installation is straightforward. M4 feed ramps and a 0.750 gas block keep feeding reliable, while the carbine-length gas tube keeps recoil manageable.

Ergonomics favor practicality: the rifle ships with a mil-spec polymer grip and a milspec trigger breaking at 5.5–6 pounds. The 15.25-inch aluminum handguard is full Picatinny rail, giving you unlimited mounting options for lights, lasers, or backup sights. No sights come mounted—you're free to add exactly what you need. The rifle comes with one 30-round magazine and tips the scales at 6.8 pounds, keeping it nimble without sacrificing the heft needed for a 16-inch gun.

Whether you're building your first modern rifle or adding to your collection, the Great Lakes Firearms .223 Wylde offers honest engineering and real-world versatility at a price that respects your budget.

Frequently Asked Questions

What ammunition does the .223 Wylde chamber shoot?

The .223 Wylde chamber is designed to safely and reliably fire both .223 Remington and 5.56 NATO ammunition. This versatility means you can shoot whatever is available or most economical, without worrying about compatibility.

Does this rifle come with sights or an optic?

No, the GL15223SSCHY ships without iron sights or optics mounted. However, the full-length Picatinny rail handguard gives you unlimited options to add your choice of sights, scopes, red dots, or other optics exactly where you want them.

Can I attach a suppressor or other muzzle device?

Yes. The barrel is threaded 1/2 x 28, which is the standard threading for .223 and 5.56 suppressors and muzzle brakes.
