The Daniel Defense V7 SLW 5.56x45 mid-length AR-15 rifle is built for shooters who refuse to compromise on handling speed. At 5.9 pounds, this is one of the lightest rifles in the DDM4 lineup—a real advantage if you're moving through terrain, running drills at the range, or simply tired of lugging a heavy platform all day. The V7 SLW starts with a cold hammer-forged 14.5-inch lightweight-profile barrel in Chrome Moly Vanadium steel, pinned and welded with an extended flash suppressor to meet the 16-inch NFA minimum. The mid-length gas system cycles smoothly and reliably while keeping recoil gentle and reducing wear on the bolt carrier group.

Daniel Defense engineered this rifle around weight savings without sacrificing strength. The free-floating MFR 13.5 handguard is CNC-machined aluminum with Type III hard-coat anodizing and runs M-LOK attachment points along 7 positions, plus an uninterrupted top Picatinny rail for optics and irons. Both the lower and upper receivers are 7075-T6 aluminum, CNC-machined to mil-spec tolerances with enhanced ergonomics—flared magazine well, proper feed ramps, and indexing marks. The bolt carrier group is M16-profile mil-spec with a properly staked gas key, and the gas block is hardened steel with low-profile design.

Controls are comfortable and proven: Daniel Defense's own buttstock and pistol grip, both polymer with soft-touch overmolding, mount to a 6-position receiver extension. Sights are sold separately, so you can choose what works for your mission. The rifle comes in Deepwood Green and ships in a Daniel Defense full-latch impact plastic case. Built in the USA.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the actual barrel length, and how does it meet NFA requirements?

The barrel is 14.5 inches; the extended flash suppressor is pinned and welded to the muzzle, bringing the total rifle length to 16 inches—the minimum required by federal law for rifles without an NFA tax stamp or registration.

Can I mount an optic and iron sights on the V7 SLW?

Yes. The rifle features an uninterrupted top Picatinny rail for optics, and the rail accommodates iron sights as well. Sights are sold separately, so you can choose the setup that fits your shooting style.

What's the gas system, and why does it matter?

The V7 SLW uses a mid-length direct impingement gas system with a pinned low-profile gas block. Mid-length systems provide smoother cycling, reduced perceived recoil, and less wear on the bolt carrier group compared to carbine-length systems.

Is this rifle accurate enough for precision shooting?

The free-floating handguard reduces harmonics and improves shot-to-shot consistency, and the cold hammer-forged barrel is mil-spec quality. Accuracy will depend on optics, ammunition, and shooter skill, but the platform is solid for both combat shooting and extended-range practice.

What comes in the box?

The rifle ships in a Daniel Defense full-latch impact plastic case. Sights, optics, and other accessories are not included.
