The Daniel Defense DDM4 V7 5.56 AR-15 is a mid-length gas system rifle built for shooters who demand reliability, modularity, and a rifle that looks as good as it performs. This is Daniel Defense's first DDM4 to incorporate M-LOK attachment technology across its handguard, paired with a 16-inch cold hammer-forged barrel and a pinned low-profile gas block that cycles smooth and fast under any condition. Whether you're building a tack-driving range gun, a dependable hunting rifle, or a versatile platform for training and competition, the V7 gives you the foundation to configure it exactly how you want it.

The standout feature here is the free-floating MFR 15.0 handguard—it's CNC-machined from 6061-T6 aluminum with M-LOK slots running seven positions, plus a full-length Picatinny rail on top for your glass and backup iron sights. That means you're not limited in how you set up your optics, lights, lasers, or grips. The barrel is chrome-moly vanadium, cold hammer-forged with a 1:7 twist, chrome-lined, and mil-spec phosphate coated; the gas system is direct impingement with a mid-length tube that keeps things cooler and softer-shooting than carbine-length setups. The muzzle is topped with Daniel Defense's own flash suppressor to keep your signature down on the line or in the field.

The rifle ships in Daniel Defense's distinctive Rattlecan finish—a hybrid blend of their proprietary Tornado and Mil Spec+ Cerakote that delivers a rugged, weathered look you won't see on every other gun at the range. Both the lower (7075-T6 aluminum with an enhanced flared magazine well) and upper receiver (also 7075-T6 with M4 feed ramps and indexing marks) are full mil-spec, and the bolt carrier group is M16 profile with a properly staked gas key. The buttstock and pistol grip are Daniel Defense's own glass-filled polymer with soft-touch overmold—comfortable, durable, and built to last. Everything is USA-made and comes in a Daniel Defense hard case.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this rifle ready to shoot out of the box?

The DDM4 V7 comes assembled and test-fired, but sights are sold separately. You'll need to add iron sights, an optic, or both to the full-length Picatinny rail on top before taking it to the range. The rifle ships in a Daniel Defense hard case with a Daniel Defense magazine.

What kind of accessories can I mount on the M-LOK handguard?

The MFR 15.0 handguard features M-LOK attachment points running seven positions along its length, so you can mount lights, lasers, grips, sling attachment points, or other M-LOK-compatible gear wherever you need it. The full-length Picatinny rail on top is also available for additional accessory mounting.

What is Rattlecan finish and how durable is it?

Rattlecan is Daniel Defense's proprietary hybrid finish that blends their Tornado paint with Mil Spec+ Cerakote, giving the rifle a distinctive two-tone, weathered appearance. It's designed to be both durable and visually distinctive, though the exact durability characteristics are best confirmed with Daniel Defense's warranty and care guidance.

What's the difference between mid-length and carbine-length gas systems?

The DDM4 V7's mid-length gas system is tuned for a longer dwell time than carbine-length systems, which typically results in smoother cycling, less perceived recoil, and reduced wear on the bolt carrier group and other moving parts over time.
