The Daniel Defense DDM4A1 5.56x45mm rifle is a proven, combat-tested platform built for shooters who demand reliability without compromise. This 14.5" AR-15 carbine carries a pedigree earned through decades of use by US Special Operations Command, incorporating the M4A1 RIS II handguard that's been part of the SOPMOD II weapons system since 2005. Whether you're training at the range, running drills, or preparing for serious field work, the DDM4A1 delivers the accuracy, ergonomics, and durability that serious shooters expect from Daniel Defense.

Built from the ground up with mil-spec materials and uncompromising manufacturing standards, this rifle uses a chrome-moly vanadium cold hammer-forged barrel with a 1:7 twist rate and chrome-lined interior, backed by HP/MPI testing. The permanently pinned and welded Daniel Defense flash suppressor is machined from 17-4 stainless steel and salt bath nitrided for corrosion resistance. Upper and lower receivers are CNC machined from 7075-T6 aluminum and hard-coat anodized, while the pinned low-profile gas block uses carbine-length direct impingement for reliable operation. Every critical component—from the M16 profile bolt carrier group to the properly staked gas key—meets or exceeds mil-spec standards.

The ergonomics match the ruggedness: the new Daniel Defense buttstock and pistol grip use glass-filled polymer with soft-touch overmolding for a secure, comfortable hold through extended shooting sessions. The 6-position receiver extension lets you dial in your preferred length of pull. The M4A1 RIS II rail system, machined from 6061-T6 aluminum, gives you genuine estate for optics, lights, and other accessories, while the included Santoprene rail panels stay cool and comfortable even during sustained use. The rifle ships in a Daniel Defense full-latch impact plastic case and weighs 6.74 lbs unloaded. It's made in the USA and accepts standard AR-15 magazines.

Sights are sold separately, giving you the freedom to build your optics setup exactly the way you want it. The 1/2"-28 TPI muzzle threads (though pinned and welded on this configuration) follow the standard that's been adopted across the industry.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the Daniel Defense DDM4A1 different from other 5.56 carbines?

The DDM4A1 is built on the proven M4A1 RIS II platform that has been deployed by US Special Operations Command since 2005. Every component is either mil-spec or Daniel Defense's own design, all manufactured to exacting standards. The cold hammer-forged, chrome-lined barrel, pinned low-profile gas block, and properly staked bolt carrier group deliver reliability in demanding conditions. This rifle is not a cost-optimized generic build; it's engineered from the ground up for performance and longevity.

Is this a short-barreled rifle (SBR) that requires a Class 3 tax stamp?

The 14.5" barrel with permanently pinned and welded flash suppressor brings the overall muzzle device length to a compliant configuration. The permanently affixed flash suppressor cannot be removed without destroying the firearm, which means this rifle is compliant as configured. However, federal and state laws vary. Always verify local regulations before purchasing or transporting any firearm, as compliance depends on your specific jurisdiction.

What optics and accessories can I mount on this rifle?

The M4A1 RIS II handguard provides extensive Picatinny rail coverage for mounting optics, lights, vertical foregrips, and other accessories. Sights are sold separately, so you can choose iron sights, a red dot, a scope, or any combination that fits your mission. The rear receiver also features a QD swivel attachment point. Note that optics and accessories are not included; you'll be building your setup independently.

What magazines does this rifle use?

The Daniel Defense DDM4A1 accepts standard AR-15 magazines. Daniel Defense magazines are compatible, as are most quality aftermarket options designed for AR-platform rifles in 5.56 NATO.

Can I adjust the length of pull on this rifle?

Yes. The 6-position receiver extension allows you to adjust the buttstock position from 31.5" to 34.75" overall length, giving you flexibility to dial in your preferred length of pull for different shooting positions and gear configurations.

What's included in the box?

The rifle ships in a Daniel Defense full-latch impact plastic case. Sights, magazines, optics, and other accessories are sold separately.
