The CZ-USA Quail 20-gauge over/under shotgun is purpose-built for youth hunters and shooters who want a serious, well-balanced gun without compromise. Designed in partnership with Pheasants Forever and named their 2019 Youth Gun of the Year, the Quail delivers the reliability and handling of a full-size CZ over/under in a package that actually fits smaller frames. If you're equipping a young shooter for upland hunting, clay games, or the range, this 28-inch 20-gauge offers genuine adult-level performance at a price point that doesn't demand a second mortgage.

What makes the Quail stand out is thoughtful engineering for its intended role: a slightly shorter 13¾-inch length of pull keeps the gun comfortable to mount and shoot, while the deleted mid-rib shaves weight from the muzzle—making it quicker to shoulder and easier to swing through birds. At 6.3 pounds, this is a gun that won't tire you out during a day in the field. The 3-inch chamber accepts standard and magnum 20-gauge loads, giving you flexibility depending on conditions and quarry. Five interchangeable choke tubes ship with the gun, so you can dial in the pattern you need.

Build quality is where CZ earns its reputation. Turkish walnut stock with a pistol grip and snag-free forend meet a gloss black chrome receiver and barrels—a finish that laughs at rust and corrosion far better than traditional bluing. The single-selectable trigger lets you choose which barrel fires first, and the manual tang safety keeps control in your hands. Single extractors (rather than ejectors) make opening the gun easy and low-hassle, and the gun is built to function reliably across thousands of rounds.

This is a serious youth shotgun that doesn't feel like a compromise. Whether you're breaking in a new hunter or you're a smaller-framed shooter yourself, the Quail delivers the balance, durability, and versatility that made CZ's Drake platform trusted by hunters across North America.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the CZ Quail good for a young or beginner shotgun hunter?

Yes—the Quail was specifically designed for youth shooters. The 13¾-inch length of pull is noticeably shorter than a standard gun, making it comfortable to mount and shoot for smaller frames. Pheasants Forever named it their 2019 Youth Gun of the Year. It's a full-featured CZ over/under, not a toy gun, so it grows with the shooter and remains reliable for years.

What choke tubes are included with this shotgun?

The Quail ships with five interchangeable FIMMICC choke tubes, giving you options to match your hunting or shooting conditions. You can dial in the pattern you need for upland birds, waterfowl, or clay targets.

Can the CZ Quail handle 3-inch magnum loads?

Yes. The gun is chambered for 3-inch shells, so it will safely fire both standard and magnum 20-gauge ammunition, letting you choose the load that suits your hunting situation.

What's the difference between the CZ Quail and the CZ Drake?

The Quail and Drake are nearly identical in design and build quality, but the Quail has a shorter length of pull (13¾ inches versus the Drake's standard length) and a lighter overall weight thanks to a deleted mid-rib. These changes make the Quail more comfortable and faster-handling for youth and smaller-framed shooters. Both are priced similarly.
