The Colt Python .357 Magnum revolver is an American-made wheelgun built on the reputation of one of the most legendary handguns ever produced. This 3-inch barrel version delivers classic Python performance in a compact, manageable platform that works equally well for personal defense, sport shooting, or carrying in the field. If you've heard the myth that Pythons are gone for good, think again—Colt brought this icon back, and it's forged from American stainless steel with a crisp trigger and proven reliability that made the original a standard-bearer for revolver shooters worldwide.

The gun balances speed and control. A double-action trigger breaks at 8 pounds, smooth and predictable; when you cock the hammer for single-action shooting, it settles to 3.5 pounds—ideal for precision work at the range or measured defensive shots. The 3-inch barrel keeps overall length to 8.5 inches, making it a practical choice for shooters who want a .357 Magnum's ballistic authority without carrying a 6-inch hunting gun. At 42 ounces, it's substantial enough to manage recoil cleanly, even with full-house Magnum loads.

Sights are practical: a red ramp front sight and adjustable rear, so you can dial elevation for your preferred load or distance. Hogue grips provide sure purchase and absorb the snap of .357 rounds without fatigue. The stainless steel frame and cylinder resist corrosion in wet conditions and outdoor use. Six-round capacity is standard for the platform—not a weakness, just revolver reality, and one that emphasizes making your shots count.

This is a gun for serious shooters: hunters needing a reliable backup or sidearm, defensive-minded citizens who trust revolver simplicity, and wheelgun enthusiasts who never abandoned the Python as a benchmark for American revolver craft. It's built, not assembled.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I shoot .38 Special in this Colt Python revolver?

Yes. The Python is chambered in .357 Magnum, which safely fires both .357 Magnum and .38 Special ammunition. Many shooters use .38 Special for practice or reduced recoil when appropriate.

What's the difference between the double-action and single-action trigger pulls?

The double-action pull is 8 pounds—you cock and fire the gun by pressing the trigger alone, which rotates the cylinder and cocks the hammer. Single-action is 3.5 pounds: you manually cock the hammer first, then press the lighter trigger. Single-action is more precise for target work; double-action is faster for defensive scenarios.

Is this revolver suitable for concealed carry?

At 8.5 inches overall and 42 ounces, the 3-inch Python is more compact than full-size duty revolvers, but it's still a full-power .357 Magnum wheelgun. Concealability depends on your holster, clothing, and comfort with the weight. Many shooters find it workable for vehicle carry or open carry; others prefer smaller-frame .357s for deep concealment.

Does this come with the Hogue grips, or are they an option?

Hogue grips come standard on this Python. They are included with the revolver.
