The Colt Competition Plus .45 ACP 5" two-tone pistol is a battle-ready 1911 built for shooters who refuse to compromise between speed and precision. Designed with competition shooters in mind, this single-action pistol combines a brushed stainless steel frame with a blued slide—giving you both the corrosion resistance you need in the field and the classic Colt looks competitors respect. At 36 ounces and 8.5 inches overall, it strikes the balance between controllability and shootability that separates winners from the field.

Every detail here serves purpose. The National Match barrel ensures the accuracy expected of a dedicated competition platform, while the Series 70 firing system delivers the clean, crisp single-stage trigger pull you want when the timer starts. Custom G10 black and grey grips with 25 LPI checkering on the front strap and mainspring housing give you a secure hold even under pressure, and the upswept beavertail grip safety combined with an undercut trigger guard keeps the pistol seated low and controllable in your hand. Those features aren't flashy—they're functional.

Recoil management matters in a full-power .45 ACP platform, especially over a long match. Colt engineered a dual recoil spring system into this Competition Plus to reduce felt recoil and extend spring life—real benefits whether you're burning through practice rounds or competing for a trophy. The Novak adjustable fiber optic sights are dead-simple to dial in and fast to pick up in varying light, letting you focus on performance instead of sight picture complexity.

This is a gun for shooters who speak fluent 1911 and want a factory competition rig without the aftermarket shuffle. It ships with one 8-round magazine and runs .45 ACP—the cartridge choice of precision competitors worldwide.

Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of shooting is the Colt Competition Plus designed for?

This pistol is purpose-built for competition shooters running 1911s in sanctioned events. The National Match barrel, adjustable sights, and Series 70 trigger system prioritize accuracy and control. That said, it's a full-featured .45 ACP that handles well for any application where a 5" 1911 makes sense.

What's included in the box?

The pistol ships with one 8-round magazine. Additional magazines are sold separately.

Why is this pistol two-tone, and does that affect durability?

The brushed stainless steel frame and blued slide combination was chosen for both appearance and function. The stainless frame provides superior corrosion resistance compared to blued steel, while the blued slide gives it the traditional Colt competition look. Both finishes are durable for regular use.

How does the dual recoil spring system benefit me?

The dual recoil spring setup reduces felt recoil when shooting full-power .45 ACP loads and extends the service life of the recoil springs before replacement is needed. This translates to less fatigue during practice or competition and lower long-term maintenance costs.
