The Colt 1911 Competition Series 70 9mm pistol is a classic government-profile 1911 built for shooters who want a reliable, straight-shooting competition or range gun with proven 1911 ergonomics. This Model O1072CCSBT pairs the iconic Series 70 firing system—known for its simplicity and consistency—with modern competition features like Novak-style sights, a fiber optic front sight, and a skeletonized trigger that reward precision shooting. It's an excellent choice for 9mm shooters looking for a full-size single-action platform without the price tag of a custom build.

The Competition Series 70 balances vintage authenticity with shooter-friendly updates. The stainless steel slide provides durability and a clean aesthetic, while the blue titanium frame offers a classic two-tone look. G10 grips deliver solid purchase in hand, and the upswept grip safety ensures safe, confident handling. The 5-inch National Match barrel is a hallmark of the 1911 platform, and in 9mm it feeds reliably while keeping recoil manageable for faster follow-up shots—a real advantage on the range or in a timed competition stage.

At 36 ounces and 8.5 inches overall, this pistol carries like a proper Government Model. The skeletonized hammer reduces take-up, and the standard thumb safety is second nature to anyone familiar with the 1911 design. With a 9-round capacity in 9mm, you get the capacity advantage of the caliber without sacrificing the proven 1911 profile and controls you already know how to shoot.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Colt 1911 Competition Series 70 suitable for beginners or defensive use?

This is a full-size, all-steel 1911 designed around the competition and range shooting platform. If you're new to 1911s, it will teach you the platform well. For defensive carry, consider your local laws, training, and whether the all-steel weight and 9-round capacity fit your needs. Consult with a firearms instructor to ensure any 1911 is the right choice for your situation.

What's included with the pistol?

The product record provided does not specify what comes in the box. Contact us directly for details on included magazines, documentation, or accessories.

Why 9mm in a 1911?

The 9mm cartridge in a full-size 1911 frame gives you capacity (9 rounds), low recoil for faster follow-ups, and the ergonomic and reliability benefits of the 1911 design. It's a popular choice for competition shooters and range enthusiasts who want a proven platform with manageable recoil.

How does the Series 70 firing system differ from Series 80?

The Series 70 is simpler—it lacks the internal safety lever of the Series 80, making it easier to maintain and tune. Many shooters prefer the Series 70 for its straightforward design and lower parts count, which is why it's favored in competition and custom builds.
