The Cimarron U.S. Cavalry Henry Nettleton 7.5" .45 Colt revolver is a historically inspired single-action six-shooter that honors one of the most unusual chapters in 19th-century firearms inspection. This .45 Colt revolver faithfully recreates the rare 1st Generation Colt models that passed through the hands of Henry Nettleton, a U.S. Ordnance Department Principal Sub-Inspector, whose stamped approval marks fewer than 3,000 guns between 1878 and beyond. What makes Nettleton's inspection work legendary among collectors is not just rarity—it's his unconventional practice of placing his inspection stamps on the left side of the hammer and trigger guard, a placement unique among all contemporary inspectors and still unexplained by historians.

This Cimarron reproduction captures those distinctive details faithfully. The 7.5-inch barrel length matches the original cavalry issue configuration, paired with a standard blue finish and walnut grips that deliver classic single-action character. Every proof mark, inspection stamp, font, and placement mirrors the originals, making this revolver as much a study of period accuracy as it is a functional firearm. Whether you're drawn to the gun's singular place in cavalry and militia history, or you're a serious student of Colt single-action development, the Henry Nettleton model speaks to the meticulous care and obsessive historical attention that Cimarron brings to its replicas.

The .45 Colt cartridge remains a respected choice for hunters and sport shooters who value versatility and proven stopping authority. This revolver suits collectors seeking documented historical inspiration, living-history enthusiasts, and shooters who appreciate single-action ergonomics and simplicity. It's the kind of gun that rewards handling—and the kind of story that rewards research.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the Henry Nettleton inspection marks historically significant?

Henry Nettleton was a U.S. Ordnance Department Principal Sub-Inspector who inspected and stamped approximately 3,000 firearms. What set him apart from other inspectors was his practice of placing his approval marks on the left side of the hammer and trigger guard—an unconventional placement that remains unexplained and was never replicated by his peers.

Is this a reproduction or an original Colt?

This is a Cimarron Firearms reproduction that recreates the 1st Generation Colt Single-Action Cavalry models inspected by Henry Nettleton. Cimarron has faithfully replicated the original design, including the proof marks, inspection stamps, fonts, and exact placement of Nettleton's distinctive markings.

What is the barrel length and why does it matter?

The 7.5-inch barrel matches the original U.S. Cavalry issue length. This length strikes a balance between sight radius and practical handling in the single-action format, and it's a key identifier of the cavalry configuration that distinguishes this model from other variations.

What is .45 Colt ammunition used for?

.45 Colt is a versatile handgun cartridge with a long history in sport shooting, hunting, and historical reenactment. It remains popular among single-action revolver shooters who value its terminal performance and the wide range of available ammunition loads.
