The Cimarron 1892 Short Rifle in .45 LC is a modern reproduction of the classic Winchester lever-action that defined American frontier and cowboy action shooting. With a compact 20-inch barrel and 38-inch overall length, this Model AS611 delivers the handling speed and balance that make lever guns so addictive in the field or on the range. Whether you're running Cowboy Action Shooting matches, hunting medium game, or just appreciating timeless American rifle design, the 1892 Short Rifle chambers the venerable .45 Long Colt — a cartridge that's still loaded by handloaders and ammunition makers everywhere.

Built the way they made them, this rifle features a color case-hardened receiver that recalls the original's finishing, paired with a blued barrel for contrast and durability. The walnut furniture — forearm and stock — combined with the crescent steel butt plate give this gun authentic aesthetics without sacrificing function. Open sights (semi-buckhorn rear, blade front) keep things simple and fast, though the receiver is drilled and tapped for optics if you want to modernize. The 1:16 twist rate is optimized for the cartridge's bullet weights, and the 10-round magazine capacity keeps the gun nimble while offering reasonable firepower for the task.

Cimarron has been producing these reproductions for decades, and they've earned respect among serious lever-gun users. The 1892 Short Rifle bridges nostalgia and practicality — it's not a safe queen, it's a working gun. If you shoot Cowboy Action, handload .45 LC, or simply prefer a rifle that feels like it has a story, this one belongs on your bench.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Cimarron 1892 Short Rifle good for Cowboy Action Shooting?

Yes. The compact barrel and open sight setup make it well-suited to CAS stages. The 10-round capacity and .45 LC chambering are standard for the sport, and the balanced handling of the short rifle keeps you nimble through tight shooting sequences.

Can I mount a scope on this rifle?

The receiver is drilled and tapped for scope rings, so yes — you can add optics if you want. However, it ships with open sights, which are fast and reliable for most hunting and shooting distances.

What ammunition does the 1892 Short Rifle use?

It chambers .45 Long Colt, a cartridge widely available from major ammunition manufacturers and popular among handloaders. The 1:16 twist rate is optimized for standard .45 LC bullet weights.

What comes with this rifle?

The rifle ships complete with open sights, walnut furniture, and the crescent steel butt plate. It does not include a magazine, scope, sling, or ammunition — these are purchased separately.
