The Cimarron 1873 Short Rifle in .357/.38 Special is a compact, historically inspired lever-action that brings Old West versatility to modern shooters who value rifle-revolver cartridge commonality. Chambered in .357 Magnum (which also fires .38 Special), this 20-inch barreled rifle lets you stack one ammunition type across a matched revolver and long gun—the same practical pairing that made the original 1873 Winchester legendary across the frontier. At 8.3 pounds, it handles like a working rifle, not a museum piece.
Built on the time-proven lever-action platform, the CA213 features a case-hardened frame that echoes authentic 1873 construction, paired with a blued barrel and hand-checkered walnut furniture. The deluxe short rifle configuration strikes a balance between the full-length Sporting Rifle and the even more compact Carbine, making it equally at home in timber, at the range, or carried in a truck for versatile backcountry shooting. The pistol grip stock and 10-round capacity give you a responsive, fast-cycling platform built for rapid follow-up shots when it counts.
Whether you're a lever-action purist, a .357 Magnum devotee looking to extend that round's range, or simply drawn to the mechanical simplicity and authentic aesthetics of the 1873 design, the Cimarron short rifle delivers genuine function wrapped in heritage gunmaking. This is a rifle that works as hard as it looks.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use .38 Special ammunition in the Cimarron 1873 Short Rifle?
Yes. The rifle is chambered in .357 Magnum, which safely fires both .357 Magnum and .38 Special cartridges. This makes it easy to match ammunition between a .357 revolver and this rifle.
How does the 20-inch barrel compare to other 1873 models?
The 20-inch short rifle barrel strikes a middle ground between the Carbine and the full-length Sporting Rifle, offering better velocity than a carbine while remaining compact and maneuverable for hunting or general use.
Is the stock a pistol grip or straight grip?
The CA213 features a hand-checkered walnut stock with a pistol grip configuration, providing better control and a more modern handling feel than traditional straight-grip lever rifles.
What does "case hardened frame" mean?
Case hardening is a heat-treatment process that creates a hard, decorative surface on the steel frame while keeping the interior relatively softer and tougher. It's authentic to the original 1873 Winchester design and gives the rifle its distinctive mottled appearance.
