The Browning X-Bolt HC McMillan Long Range rifle in 6.8 Western is purpose-built for hunters and shooters serious about extending their effective range. This isn't a tweaked hunting rifle—it's a dedicated long-range platform built on Browning's proven X-Bolt action, married to a McMillan Game Scout composite stock that brings U.S. Marine-grade durability and tactical features to a traditional hunting form factor. The 26-inch fluted barrel, Cerakote Smoked Bronze finish, and factory-installed 20 MOA Picatinny rail give you the accuracy foundation and mounting options serious distance demands.
The McMillan Game Scout stock strikes a practical balance between compact hunting ergonomics and precision-shooting geometry. You get a medium fore-end, straight-comb buttstock, and vertical pistol grip with thumbshelf—all finished in versatile Browning OVIX camo that works across diverse terrain. Textured panels on the fore-end and grip deliver confident handling in variable conditions, while quick-detach sling cups and a front bipod stud keep you flexible in the field or on the range. The Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad smooths the shooter experience with a magnum cartridge.
Factory-installed performance touches matter here: the 6.8 Western headspace is matched to a 5/8-24 threaded muzzle (suppressor-ready), and the included Recoil Hawg muzzle brake addresses the cartridge's signature recoil. The extended bolt handle speeds cycling without requiring glove removal, and the free-floating heavy barrel isolates the action for consistent accuracy. With three rounds in the magazine and all the long-range foundation pieces already in place, this rifle lets you focus on ammunition selection and skill development rather than retrofitting and tuning.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this rifle suppressor-ready?
Yes. The muzzle is threaded 5/8-24 for suppressor mounting. The rifle comes with a thread protector and factory-installed Recoil Hawg muzzle brake, so you have that option ready if you choose to add a suppressor later.
What's included and what do I need to add?
The rifle ships with the Recoil Hawg muzzle brake, thread protector, and 20 MOA Picatinny rail already installed. You'll need to add an optic and ammunition. A bipod is not included, though the rifle has a dedicated stud for mounting one. Sling cups are pre-fitted for quick-detach sling attachments.
Does the McMillan stock fit standard hunting slings?
The stock is fitted with quick-detach (QD) sling cups on both the fore-end and rear, allowing you to use any QD-compatible sling setup. There's also a single front swivel for bipod mounting.
Is the 6.8 Western a good choice for long-range hunting?
The 6.8 Western is designed for medium to long-range hunting and has the ballistics to support extended-distance shooting. Paired with the free-floating 26-inch barrel, 20 MOA rail, and precision stock geometry of this rifle, you have a factory-assembled platform for that purpose. Your effective range will depend on your optics, ammunition selection, and shooting skill.
