The Browning Citori Hunter 28-gauge over-and-under shotgun brings classic upland hunting performance to a nimble platform. Built on Browning's proven Citori action, this 28 Gauge shotgun combines traditional handling with modern durability features that keep pace with a day in the field—whether you're working through quail cover, hunting grouse, or enjoying clay sports where light recoil and quick handling matter.
At its core, the Citori Hunter uses a transverse-mounted full-width tapered locking bolt and monoblock recess for maximum strength, paired with Browning's full-width hinge pin for longevity under repeated firing. The inertia trigger system is crisp and reliable, while the hammer ejectors ensure spent shells pop clear without extra effort. Three flush choke tubes—Full, Modified, and Improved Cylinder—come in the box, letting you tailor the shot pattern to your hunting situation or clay target discipline.
Handling and comfort matter on a 28-gauge, and this Citori doesn't disappoint. The satin-finished Grade I American walnut stock is coupled with an Inflex recoil pad to absorb the gun's light impulse, and the silver bead front sight makes target acquisition fast in low light. Gloss-finished metalwork with gold enhancement on the receiver give it visual appeal without sacrificing function. Chrome-plated chambers resist corrosion and make cleanup easier after a wet day, while the lengthened forcing cone and back-bored barrels optimize pattern performance and reduce shot deformation—especially useful if you ever run steel loads.
The 28-gauge is often called the "Goldilocks" gauge for upland hunters: more punch than a .410, lighter recoil and ammunition cost than 20-gauge, and enough versatility to handle a range of game and clay targets. The Citori Hunter 28 delivers that balance in a gun that handles like it weighs nothing and points as naturally as an extension of your body.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Browning Citori Hunter 28-gauge a good gun for upland hunting?
Yes. The 28-gauge is ideal for upland hunting where light recoil, fast handling, and precise shot placement matter. The Citori's balanced design, silver bead sight for quick aiming, and three included choke tubes give you flexibility across different game and terrain. The 3-inch chamber also allows you to load for different distances when needed.
What choke tubes come with this shotgun?
Three flush choke tubes are included: Full, Modified, and Improved Cylinder. These cover the most common hunting and clay shooting scenarios and work with the Standard Invector choke system on this 28-gauge model.
How does the Inflex recoil pad help with a 28-gauge?
The Inflex Recoil Pad II absorbs recoil energy and reduces felt impulse. While the 28-gauge is naturally light-recoiling, the pad increases comfort during extended shooting sessions and helps you stay on target for follow-up shots.
Are the barrels chrome-plated?
The chambers are chrome-plated for corrosion resistance and easier cleaning. This is particularly useful after hunting in wet conditions or when running steel shot, as the chrome finish helps prevent rust and buildup.
