The Browning BLR Lightweight lever-action rifle in .270 Winchester is a purpose-built option for hunters who want speed, precision, and reliability in a classic action. The BLR line has earned its place in American hunting camps for decades, and this pistol-grip variant brings modern ergonomics to a time-tested platform. At 7 pounds 4 ounces, it's light enough to carry all day through timber or open country, yet the .270 Win delivers the downrange authority serious hunters expect for deer, elk, and medium to large game.
What sets the BLR Lightweight apart is its balance of tradition and function. The polished blued steel and gloss black walnut stock look and feel like a rifle built to work, not parade. The lever-action is smooth and intuitive—no learning curve here—and the four-round capacity is typical for this class of rifle and caliber. The fully adjustable rear sight and brass bead front sight are honest open sights; they'll get the job done at practical hunting ranges, and they leave your scope bases and rings as backup if you run glass.
The 22-inch barrel keeps the overall length at 43 inches, making it easy to maneuver in tight cover or move between shooting positions. The 1:10 twist rate is standard for the .270 and will stabilize the full range of factory and handload ammunition you're likely to use. The 14.25-inch length of pull works well for hunters in light jackets or shirts, though heavier outerwear may make it feel slightly short—something to consider if you hunt cold country in heavy gear.
If you value the lever-action's quick follow-up shot capability and the .270's reputation as a clean, effective hunting cartridge, the BLR Lightweight delivers both without pretense or unnecessary complexity.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Browning BLR Lightweight good for?
The BLR Lightweight in .270 Winchester is built for hunting deer, elk, and other medium to large game. Its light weight and quick lever-action make it ideal for hunters who move through terrain and need fast follow-up shots. The .270 Win is a proven, flat-shooting cartridge with a long range and clean killing power on game at typical hunting distances.
Can I mount a scope on this rifle?
Yes. The BLR has a grooved receiver that will accept scope mounts and rings. The open sights (brass bead front and fully adjustable rear) come on the rifle, so you can use them as-is or add glass as your setup requires. Some hunters run it with open sights as their primary system; others use glass and keep the irons as backup.
What does the pistol grip configuration mean?
The pistol grip is a modern ergonomic addition to the lever-action design. It allows for a more controlled hold and easier manipulation of the lever compared to some traditional straight-grip stocks. It improves control during shooting and makes the rifle feel more intuitive to hunters who are familiar with modern rifle ergonomics.
Is the 14.25-inch length of pull suitable for me?
The length of pull—the distance from the trigger to the end of the stock—is 14.25 inches on this rifle. This works well for hunters in light shirts or light jackets. If you hunt heavy cold-weather gear regularly, a longer pull may be more comfortable, and you may want to try one at a dealer before committing.
