The Browning AB3 Hunter in .308 Winchester is a no-nonsense bolt-action rifle built for hunters who value reliability and straightforward performance. This is a classic working rifle—the kind that pairs solid engineering with honest handling, all without the premium price tag or unnecessary complexity. A 22-inch barrel keeps things nimble in the field, while the 5-round capacity is more than adequate for most hunting scenarios. At 6 lbs 11 oz, it's light enough to carry mile after mile yet substantial enough to settle naturally behind a scope.

The AB3 Hunter wears a satin-finished stock and matte blued barrel—finishes that age gracefully and won't catch the sun. The action is smooth and reliable, and the rifle comes factory drilled and tapped for scope mounting, so you can get glass on it and get to the range without extra guesswork. The 13 5/8-inch length of pull accommodates most adult shooters comfortably, and the stock geometry (11/16-inch drop at comb, 1/2-inch drop at heel) is designed to provide a natural sight picture through mounted optics. The 1-in-12 twist rate is standard for .308 Winchester and will handle a wide range of loads and bullet weights, from lighter varmint rounds to heavier hunting ammunition.

The .308 Winchester itself remains one of the most practical calibers for North American hunting—inherently accurate, widely available, and effective on everything from deer to elk when matched with appropriate ammunition. Whether you're glassing hillsides, working thick timber, or taking shots at known distance, the AB3 Hunter delivers the kind of straightforward capability that has made this caliber a field staple for generations. It's a rifle that gets out of your way and lets you focus on the hunt.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Browning AB3 Hunter ready for a scope out of the box?

Yes. The rifle comes factory drilled and tapped for scope mounting, so you can install rings and your choice of optic without any gunsmithing. Just measure your action and select appropriate rings for the scope you want to mount.

What ammunition works in the .308 Winchester?

The .308 Winchester is one of the most commonly manufactured rifle cartridges in the world. You'll find factory ammunition from virtually every major ammunition producer, in everything from target loads to premium hunting rounds, making it practical and economical to shoot and feed long-term.

What's the 1-in-12 twist rate, and does it matter for hunting?

The 1-in-12 twist rate is the standard rifling twist for .308 Winchester and will accurately stabilize the full range of typical hunting bullets—from lighter 110-grain rounds to heavier 180-grain loads. You won't need to worry about twist rate limitations when choosing ammunition for hunting applications.

Is the length of pull suitable for average hunters?

The 13 5/8-inch length of pull accommodates most adult shooters well. If you have a particularly long or short arm, or plan to shoot in heavy clothing, you may want to handle the rifle to confirm the fit, but this measurement is standard and comfortable for the majority of hunters.
