The Browning AB3 Composite Stalker in 308 Winchester is a no-nonsense hunting rifle built for hunters who value reliability, balance, and practical field performance. This is a straightforward bolt-action workhorse: accurate enough for ethical long-range shots, light enough to carry all day in the mountains or across open country, and durable enough to handle the variables of real hunting conditions. The AB3 line has earned a solid reputation for doing its job without fuss, and the Composite Stalker variant strips away unnecessary extras to focus on what matters—a dependable, accurate rifle that won't break the bank or your back.
The rifle's 22-inch sporter-contour barrel in matte blue steel keeps overall length manageable at 42 inches, while the weight of 6 lbs 9 oz makes it a genuine mountain rifle. The composite stock with textured grip panels handles weather without flinching and provides a confident purchase in wet conditions. Recoil is managed by a polymer pad, and the trigger—composite, matte blue—is smooth and predictable. A 5-round detachable magazine keeps things simple and reliable. Whether you're glassing ridges for mule deer, working timber for elk, or zeroing in at the range, the AB3's receiver is pre-drilled and tapped for scope mounting, so you can get glass on quickly.
The 308 Winchester chamber is the rifle's greatest asset: a round that's proven across generations of hunters, ranchers, and shooters. It shoots flatter than the 30-06 for practical hunting distances, recoils less, and ammunition is everywhere. From 100 to 400 yards—the realistic ethical range for most hunting situations—the 308 is legitimate. The 12-inch twist rate stabilizes typical 308 bullet weights without complication.
This is the rifle you buy when you want to hunt, not build a gun collection. It doesn't try to be tactical, featherweight, or fancy. It's simply a dependable bolt gun that gets the job done in real conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Browning AB3 Composite Stalker 308 ready for a scope out of the box?
The receiver is drilled and tapped for scope mounting, so you can install your own scope and rings without gunsmithing. However, a scope is not included and must be purchased separately.
What game can I hunt with a 308 Winchester rifle?
The 308 is effective on deer, elk, and other mid-to-large game within practical hunting distances. Shot placement and ammunition choice matter—work with ethical distance limits you can confidently execute and use bullets appropriate for your intended game.
What is the length of pull, and will it fit me?
The length of pull is 13 5/8 inches, which is the standard measurement and fits most adult shooters. If you have a shorter or longer arm length, you may want to check fit before purchasing or discuss adjustments with a gunsmith.
Does the composite stock hold up to rough hunting conditions?
Yes. The composite stock is weather-resistant and resists moisture, temperature swings, and rough field handling better than wood. The textured grip panels maintain control even when wet or gloved, making it well-suited to serious hunting.
