The Auto Ordnance Thompson 1927A-1 Deluxe .45 ACP carbine brings legendary tommy gun handling and history to the modern shooter. Built on the iconic Thompson platform but in semi-automatic form, this .45 ACP rifle delivers the character and ergonomics of a classic with practical modern features. The 16.5-inch barrel keeps this carbine compact and maneuverable—ideal if you're drawn to historical military rifles, want a conversation-starting range gun, or simply appreciate the solid, controllable recoil of .45 ACP in a dedicated rifle platform. The Deluxe model comes equipped with a walnut stock and fore-grip for a warm, traditional feel that matches its heritage.

Feeding is handled by included 100-round drum and 20-round stick magazines, giving you flexibility at the range or in the field. The open sights—a blade front with adjustable rear—are straightforward and reliable, though many Thompson owners upgrade with optics for precision work. At 13 pounds and 41 inches overall, it's hefty enough to manage recoil but not so heavy that all-day handling becomes a chore. The semi-automatic action is smooth and forgiving, making this carbine suitable for shooters of various experience levels.

This is a rifle that rewards trigger time. The Thompson's reputation for accuracy and reliability precedes it, and the .45 ACP cartridge—mild-mannered but effective—is widely available and economical to shoot. Whether you're a collector of American firearms, a cowboy-action or historical competition shooter, or simply want to experience one of the most recognizable rifles ever made, the 1927A-1 Deluxe delivers authentic performance without the select-fire complexity or legal entanglement of its full-auto ancestors.

Frequently Asked Questions

What magazines work with the Thompson 1927A-1, and what comes in the box?

This Deluxe model ships with both a 100-round drum magazine and 20-round stick magazines. Both are included, giving you options for different shooting scenarios—the drum for sustained range sessions, the stick mags for carry and storage flexibility.

Is the Thompson 1927A-1 semi-automatic legal to own?

Yes. This is a semi-automatic rifle that fires one round per trigger press, making it legal for civilian ownership in most states. However, always verify your local and state laws before purchase, as regulations vary by jurisdiction.

Can I mount a scope or red dot on the Thompson?

The rifle ships with open sights (blade front, adjustable rear), which are effective for close to mid-range work. Many shooters add optics, but you'll need to verify mounting options based on the receiver's top surface. Consult the manual or contact Auto Ordnance for compatible mounting solutions.

What is .45 ACP ammunition like to shoot in rifle form?

The .45 ACP cartridge is known for mild recoil, soft handling, and reliability. In a rifle platform like the Thompson, it's easy to control and beginner-friendly, while still offering the penetration and stopping power the round is famous for. Ammo is widely available and typically economical compared to rifle cartridges.
