The Winchester SXP Marine Defender 20-gauge pump shotgun is a compact, weather-resistant home and camp defender built for hunters and shooters who need reliability in harsh conditions. At 18 inches with an overall length of 38.5 inches, this 20-gauge is nimble enough for tight spaces—boat cabins, camp interiors, vehicles—yet carries the stopping power and quick follow-up capability of a modern pump gun. The matte hard chrome finish on the barrel, magazine tube, and slide arms resists rust and corrosion in wet, salty, or demanding environments where finish durability separates a shooter's tool from a paperweight.

The SXP Marine Defender holds 5 rounds total and feeds from the Invector-Plus choke system with a cylinder choke installed, letting you use slugs, buckshot, or birdshot without changing tubes. The inertia-assisted pump action cycles cleanly and fast; a rotary bolt with four massive lugs locks everything up tight. The alloy receiver is drilled and tapped for scope bases if you want to mount optics, and the drop-out trigger group makes field cleaning straightforward. Black composite stock with textured gripping surfaces stays non-slip even when wet, and the ribbed forearm gives you positive control during recoil and follow-up shots.

Sights are kept simple and effective: a traditional brass bead front sight pairs with a removable TruGlo fiber-optic sight for fast target acquisition in low light. The INFLEX recoil pad redirects felt recoil down and away from your face to reduce flinch and shooting fatigue—important when you're working from a bench or in close quarters. Crossbolt safety operates smoothly even with gloves, and the hard chrome-plated chamber and bore add another layer of corrosion resistance where it matters most. At 6 pounds 4 ounces, the Marine Defender balances shootability with portability.

Whether you're setting up a cabin gun, stocking a boat, or adding a compact 20-gauge to your home defense plan, the SXP Marine Defender delivers Winchester's pump-gun reliability with materials engineered for salt spray, rain, and neglect.

Frequently Asked Questions

What choke comes installed, and can I use different loads?

The Marine Defender ships with a cylinder choke installed as part of the Invector-Plus system. A cylinder choke works with slugs, buckshot, and birdshot without requiring a tube swap—one of the advantages of this setup for a compact, versatile gun.

Can I mount a scope or red dot sight?

Yes. The alloy receiver is drilled and tapped for scope bases. The gun also ships with a TruGlo fiber-optic front sight that can be removed if you want to run a rail-mounted optic instead.

What is the total ammo capacity?

The SXP Marine Defender holds 5 rounds total: four in the magazine tube and one in the chamber when loaded.

Is this shotgun suitable for marine or wet environments?

Yes. The matte hard chrome plating on the barrel, magazine tube, slide arms, and internal components is specifically designed to resist corrosion from saltwater, rain, and high-humidity conditions. The hard chrome-plated chamber and bore add extra protection where moisture and wear are most likely.
