The Winchester SXP Marine Defender is a tough, fast-cycling 12-gauge pump shotgun built for the kind of work that doesn't care about weather or conditions. With its 18-inch barrel, compact 38.5-inch overall length, and 6.25-pound weight, this shotgun delivers quick target acquisition and responsive handling in tight quarters—whether you're defending your boat, cabin, camp, or home. The inertia-assisted action cycles faster than traditional pump shotguns, giving you rapid follow-up shots when it matters. Matte chrome plating on the barrel and magazine tube stands up to salt spray, moisture, and hard use without rust creep.
The all-aluminum alloy receiver is drilled and tapped for scope base mounting, so you're not locked into iron sights if your mission demands an optic. The hard chrome chamber and bore resist corrosion and wear from repeated cycling and varied ammunition. A traditional brass bead front sight pairs with a removable TruGlo fiber-optic sight for a fast, natural sight picture in variable light. The 13.75-inch length of pull and synthetic stock with textured gripping surfaces keep the gun controllable even with wet or gloved hands, while the ribbed forearm gives you leverage during the pump cycle. Inflex Technology recoil pad management helps manage felt recoil and reduce shooter fatigue on high-volume days.
This is a no-nonsense working gun. The rotary bolt with four massive locking lugs delivers solid lockup. Drop-out trigger group makes field cleaning quick. Crossbolt safety operates smoothly even in gloves. The 3-inch chamber and 5-round capacity load one in the chamber for a six-shell total—enough for most tactical, home defense, or hunting scenarios. INVECTOR-Plus choke tubes are included with a cylinder choke installed, so you run slugs, buckshot, or birdshot without compromise.
If you shoot a pump shotgun and want something that cycles cleaner and faster than the next guy's, or if you need a marine-grade defensive shotgun that won't corrode, the SXP Marine Defender earns its keep.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will the Winchester SXP Marine Defender work for home defense or tactical use?
Yes. The 18-inch barrel and compact 38.5-inch length make it maneuverable indoors. The 3-inch chamber accepts buckshot or slugs, and the 5-round magazine plus one in the chamber gives you six rounds total. The fast inertia-assisted action and tactical ribbed forearm are built for rapid follow-up shots in high-stress situations.
Is this shotgun suitable for salt water or harsh environments?
Absolutely. The matte chrome plating on the barrel and magazine tube, combined with the hard chrome chamber and bore, resists corrosion from salt spray, moisture, and harsh weather. It's specifically designed for marine and outdoor environments where rust and wear are constant threats.
Can I mount an optic or tactical light on this shotgun?
Yes. The aluminum alloy receiver is drilled and tapped for scope base mounting, so you can add an optic. You'll need to purchase compatible mounting hardware separately.
What chokes come with the Winchester SXP Marine Defender?
The shotgun comes with one cylinder choke installed in the INVECTOR-Plus choke tube system. The cylinder choke works with slugs, buckshot, and birdshot, and you can purchase additional INVECTOR-Plus chokes separately if you want to tune patterns for specific loads.
