The Winchester SX4 Compact 20-gauge shotgun is built for shooters who need a gun that fits them as much as they fit into the field. This 20-gauge autoloader trades nothing in capability but gains everything in handling—a 13-inch length of pull makes it the ideal choice for smaller-framed hunters, youth shooters, or anyone who found standard shotguns a reach too far. You get the proven gas-operated action and modern ergonomics of the SX4 platform in a scaled package that actually feels natural when you mount it to your shoulder.

What sets the Compact apart is attention to the mechanics that matter when you're in the field or on the range. The TruGlo fiber-optic front sight cuts through low light and brush faster than conventional beads, keeping your sight picture sharp and your target acquisition quick. Larger controls—the bolt handle, bolt release, and reversible safety button—were designed with smaller hands in mind, making the gun faster and more intuitive to operate, whether you're wearing gloves or moving fast. The matte black composite stock and aluminum receiver wear tough and look clean without requiring a lot of maintenance.

Built on Winchester's Active Valve gas system, the SX4 Compact cycles 2¾-inch and 3-inch 20-gauge shells reliably and handles recoil with a Pachmayr Decelerator pad that actually pulls your head away from the comb during the shot—real geometry, real comfort. Three Invector-Plus choke tubes let you tune the pattern for ducks, upland game, or clay targets. At 6 pounds 4 ounces, it's light enough for a full day afield without fatigue, and the 24-inch barrel balances speed and shot column for practical hunting distances.

This is a genuine shotgun, not a youth-model compromise. If standard 12-gauges and full-sized 20s have always felt wrong in your hands, the SX4 Compact solves that problem without forcing you to settle.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the SX4 Compact a good choice for youth or smaller hunters?

Yes. The 13-inch length of pull, larger safety and bolt controls, and lighter recoil pad make it designed specifically for shooters of smaller stature. It's a full-featured shotgun, not a beginner gun—just scaled to fit properly.

What shells does the SX4 Compact shoot?

This shotgun is chambered in 20 gauge and accepts both 2¾-inch and 3-inch shells. The magazine holds up to four 2¾-inch shells.

What sights and chokes come with it?

The gun includes a TruGlo fiber-optic front sight for fast target acquisition and three Invector-Plus choke tubes so you can match the pattern to your hunting or clay shooting needs.

How does the recoil pad work?

The Pachmayr Decelerator pad uses Inflex Technology to absorb recoil while actually pulling your head away from the comb during the shot, reducing felt recoil and improving comfort and gun control when firing.
