The Winchester Model 1873 in .45 Colt is a lever-action carbine that bridges history and modern shooting sports in a single, elegant package. Built in the competition carbine configuration, this 20-inch rifle carries the DNA of the gun that settled the American frontier while delivering the reliability that makes it a favorite among Cowboy Action Shooters and classic rifle enthusiasts. If you shoot a .45 Colt revolver, you can run the same ammunition through this carbine—a practical advantage that has defined the Model 1873's appeal for generations.

This isn't a reproduction or homage; it's a genuine Winchester Repeating Arms lever gun with historically accurate details executed in quality materials. The color case hardened receiver, buttplate, and barrel band give it authentic character, while the Grade III/IV walnut furniture delivers a warm, substantial feel in your hands. The 20-inch round barrel is button rifled for consistent accuracy, and the full-length magazine feeds reliably through hundreds of rounds. Collectors and hunters who value the real McCoy over copies will appreciate the fit, finish, and engineering Winchester brought to this model.

Practical too: the top tang is drilled and tapped for an optional receiver-mounted peep sight, letting you customize the rifle's sighting system to your preference or competition ruleset. Whether you're drawn to lever guns for hunting, Cowboy Action competition, or simply want to own a firearm that carries genuine historical significance, the Model 1873 carbine delivers functionality wrapped in legendary design.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use .45 Colt ammunition from my revolver in this carbine?

Yes. The Model 1873 is chambered in .45 Colt, the same cartridge that feeds popular single-action revolvers. This ammunition compatibility is one reason Cowboy Action Shooters favor the lever-action Model 1873—you can run the same rounds through both guns.

Does this rifle come with a peep sight?

No. The receiver top tang is drilled and tapped to accept an optional peep sight, but the sight itself is not included. This design lets you choose your preferred rear sighting option based on your shooting style or competition requirements.

What's the difference between this carbine and a standard Model 1873?

This is a competition carbine configuration featuring a 20-inch barrel and full-length magazine tube, along with period-correct details like the color case hardened receiver, barrel band, and saddle ring. It was produced as a SHOT Show special edition.

Is this a reproduction or an original Winchester?

This is a genuine Winchester Repeating Arms Model 1873 manufactured in modern times, not an antique original. It's built to historical specifications with authentic materials and finishes—walnut stock, color case hardening, and blued barrel—rather than being a modern polymer or simplified copy.
