The Winchester 94 Trails End Takedown in .38-55 Win is a lever-action rifle built for hunters and shooters who appreciate classic American gun-making and practical field handling. This takedown model breaks down for easy transport and storage—a genuine advantage whether you're hiking remote country or managing a crowded truck rack. At 6 lbs 12 oz with a compact 20-inch barrel and 38-inch overall length, it's balanced for one-handed carry through timber and across open ground. The .38-55 Winchester is a mild, accurate cartridge favored by handloaders and shooters who prize precision and low recoil over magnum energy; it's equally at home in a hunting camp or on the target range.

The rifle's architecture is straightforward Winchester lever-gun design: a steel receiver and barrel finished in brushed polish, mated to Grade I black walnut furniture in satin. The action cycles smoothly through a full-length tube magazine holding six rounds. A 13.5-inch length of pull and moderate drop dimensions (1.25 inches at the comb, 1.75 inches at the heel) fit most adult shooters comfortably, and the polymer recoil pad absorbs what little kick the .38-55 generates. The 15:1 twist rate is optimized for the round's traditional bullet weights and velocities.

If you shoot or hunt in .38-55, reload for it, or want a lever gun that strips down for travel without sacrificing accuracy or handling, the Trails End Takedown delivers honest, working-gun functionality in a caliber that rewards careful shooting. It's the kind of rifle that becomes more valuable the more you use it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this rifle truly a takedown model—will it really separate?

Yes. The Trails End Takedown design allows the barrel and receiver to separate, making the rifle compact and convenient for travel, storage, or transport in a pack or vehicle. This is a genuine takedown, not a barrel-heavy rifle that merely disassembles partially.

What is the .38-55 Winchester best suited for?

The .38-55 is a moderate-power, accurate cartridge popular with hunters pursuing deer and similar game at moderate ranges, and with target shooters and handloaders who value its mild recoil and precision. It's not a long-range magnum; it's a straight-shooting, low-recoil classic.
