The Winchester 70 Featherweight in 7mm-08 Rem is a modern take on one of hunting's most iconic bolt-action rifles. Built on a forged steel receiver with integral recoil lug, this rifle combines the proven Pre-'64 controlled round feed design with contemporary accuracy features—all wrapped in a satin-finished Grade I walnut stock that's as elegant as it is practical. At 6 lb 12 oz and 42.25 inches overall, the Featherweight lives up to its name: it's quick to move in the field yet rigid enough for consistent long-range shots.

The 7mm-08 Rem is a natural fit for hunters seeking a short-action cartridge with genuine reach. Its combination of velocity and energy works well on medium game, and the Featherweight's 22-inch cold hammer-forged barrel, free-floating design, and recessed target crown give you the accuracy to take full advantage. The M.O.A. Trigger System delivers a crisp, predictable break with zero take-up, zero creep, and zero overtravel—the foundation of repeatable shooting whether you're at the range or in the field.

True to the Featherweight legacy, you'll find a jeweled bolt body and knurled bolt handle that feel as good as they function. The three-position safety is intuitive and always shows your status at a glance. A blade-type ejector gives you full control of cartridge ejection, and the alloy one-piece bottom metal adds rigidity without unnecessary weight. The satin walnut stock features classic Schnabel forearm shaping and cut checkering—functional and timeless. Topped off with a Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad, this rifle absorbs felt recoil without compromising cheek weld or ergonomics.

Whether you're building a versatile all-rounder for hunting or setting up a reliable bolt-action for consistent range work, the Winchester 70 Featherweight offers the handling speed and accuracy that have made it a standard-bearer for generations.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the Winchester 70 Featherweight good for hunting?

The 7mm-08 Rem chambering offers solid performance on medium game with good velocity and energy, while the Featherweight's light weight and quick-handling profile make it ideal for hunting situations where you're covering ground or need to move and aim quickly. The M.O.A. Trigger and free-floating barrel deliver the accuracy needed to make ethical shots at hunting distances.

Can the Winchester 70 Featherweight be used for long-range shooting?

Yes. The forged steel receiver bedded front and rear, free-floating barrel, recessed target crown, and M.O.A. Trigger System are all precision features that support consistent long-range accuracy. The 7mm-08 Rem has sufficient velocity for extended range work, though it's best suited to medium distances compared to larger magnum cartridges.

What is included with this rifle?

The rifle ships as a complete barreled action in a walnut stock with trigger and safety. It does not include a scope or scope rings; you will need to add those separately to mount optics.

Is the walnut stock durable for field use?

The Grade I walnut stock is finished in satin—a traditional, practical finish that protects the wood while maintaining its classic appearance. Walnut is a time-tested stock material, though field use and weather exposure will age its finish over time, which many hunters view as part of the rifle's character.
