The Winchester 70 Extreme Weather SS in 6.5 Creedmoor is a short-action hunting rifle built for hunters who refuse to let weather dictate when they're afield. Stainless steel action and a fluted barrel resist corrosion in rain, snow, and high-humidity environments—key features for serious hunters tackling unpredictable conditions. At 6 lbs 12 oz, it strikes a practical balance between light enough to pack uphill but substantial enough to shoot confidently from the bench or field position.
This Winchester delivers the accuracy and reliability the 70 platform is known for, paired with a Bell and Carlson composite stock that combines durability with a textured finish for positive handling. The aluminum bedding block ensures consistent barrel performance, while the M.O.A. trigger system breaks cleanly—important when precision matters. The Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad absorbs felt recoil without the bulk, keeping you comfortable during longer range sessions or multiple follow-up shots in the field.
The 6.5 Creedmoor cartridge has earned its place as a modern standard for medium-range hunting and target shooting. It delivers flat trajectories, manageable recoil, and the downrange energy hunters need for elk, deer, and similar game across diverse terrain. With a 22-inch barrel and 1-in-8-inch twist rate, the rifle is optimized for the wide range of 6.5 Creedmoor factory and handloaded ammunition available today.
If you hunt in wet, cold, or coastal climates, or simply want a no-compromise rifle that won't rust when conditions get harsh, the Winchester 70 Extreme Weather SS deserves a close look.

Frequently Asked Questions
What caliber is this Winchester 70, and what game is it suitable for?
This rifle is chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor, a versatile cartridge with a strong reputation for medium-range hunting and target shooting. It's commonly used for deer, elk, and similar-sized game, offering excellent ballistics and manageable recoil in a compact, lightweight package.
Why does this rifle have a stainless steel action and fluted barrel?
The matte stainless steel action is specifically engineered to resist corrosion in wet, humid, and harsh field conditions. The fluted barrel serves dual purposes: it improves heat dissipation and reduces weight without sacrificing rigidity, helping keep the overall rifle weight down to just 6 lbs 12 oz.
Is this rifle good for hunters in wet or coastal climates?
Yes. The "Extreme Weather" designation reflects its stainless steel construction, textured composite stock, and corrosion-resistant components—all designed to perform reliably in rain, snow, salt spray, and high-humidity environments where traditional blued steel rifles can struggle.
What is the length of pull, and is it adjustable?
The Winchester 70 Extreme Weather SS has a fixed length of pull of 13.75 inches, which fits most adult shooters well. The Bell and Carlson composite stock is not adjustable for LOP, so if you need a shorter or longer pull, you'll need to consider stock modifications or a custom fit.
