The Weatherby Vanguard Compact Hunter .308 Win is a bolt-action rifle built for shooters who don't fit the "one-size-fits-all" mold. Its 20-inch barrel and adjustable stock make it an excellent choice for hunters of smaller stature, younger shooters, or anyone who values a nimble, handy rifle without compromising on accuracy or reliability. The injection-molded composite stock features a removable spacer system that lets you dial in your length of pull from 12 to 13⅝ inches, so the rifle grows with you as your needs change.

Every Vanguard is guaranteed to deliver sub-MOA accuracy—three-shot groups of 0.99 inches or tighter at 100 yards from a cold barrel—when fired with Weatherby factory or premium ammunition. That's not marketing talk; it's a two-year warranty promise backed by the maker. The engineered details behind that guarantee include a cold hammer-forged barrel, a one-piece machined bolt body with integral recoil lug, and a match-quality two-stage trigger that breaks clean and predictably. The 3-position safety is intuitive, and the hinged floorplate makes reloading the magazine swift and straightforward.

The tungsten Cerakote finish on the barrel and metalwork resists corrosion and handles hard use without showing wear like bare steel would. The fluted bolt body reduces weight while maintaining rigidity, and the fully enclosed bolt sleeve keeps things running smooth cycle after cycle. With its compact footprint, sub-MOA pedigree, and adaptable fit, the Vanguard Compact Hunter is a serious rifle for .308 Win hunting, whether you're introducing a new generation to the field or you simply prefer a rifle that handles like it weighs less.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the Vanguard Compact Hunter different from a standard Vanguard?

The Compact Hunter is built around a shorter length of pull and lighter overall profile. Its 20-inch barrel and adjustable stock spacer (12 to 13⅝ inches) make it ideal for shooters who need a more proportional fit—whether that's a younger hunter, a smaller-framed adult, or anyone who prefers a handy rifle. The adjustability also means it can adapt as your needs change, making it a smart choice for families introducing new shooters to the sport.

Is the Weatherby Vanguard Compact Hunter really accurate enough for hunting?

Yes. Weatherby backs every Vanguard with a sub-MOA accuracy guarantee: three-shot groups of 0.99 inches or tighter at 100 yards from a cold barrel when using Weatherby factory or premium ammunition. That level of precision is more than sufficient for ethical hunting at practical distances, and it's a two-year warranty promise to the original purchaser.

Can I adjust the length of pull?

Absolutely. The stock features a removable elongated spacer that lets you dial in your preferred length of pull anywhere from 12 to 13⅝ inches. This adjustment is simple and doesn't require gunsmithing, so the rifle can grow with a young shooter or adapt to different shooting positions and gear.

What ammunition should I use with this rifle?

The sub-MOA accuracy guarantee applies when you use Weatherby factory ammunition or premium ammunition. While the rifle will function with other .308 Win loads, Weatherby factory ammunition is your assurance of meeting the guaranteed accuracy standard.
