The 338 RPM case itself is engineered for velocity. Developed by necking up Weatherby's 6.5 RPM design to accept .338-caliber bullets, the cartridge features a large body diameter, minimal body taper, and a 35-degree shoulder that maximize powder capacity. That case geometry translates to higher velocities from a magnum platform scaled to fit a practical, packable rifle—ideal for the hunter who covers distance to reach elk, moose, or other North American big game in steep or remote terrain.
