The Weatherby Mark V Backcountry Carbon in 6.5 WBY RPM is purpose-built for hunters who refuse to compromise between firepower and pack weight. This rifle marries Weatherby's legendary Mark V action with cutting-edge carbon fiber construction to deliver a sub-6-pound magnum rifle that doesn't sacrifice accuracy or control. At 5.9 pounds, it's light enough to carry all day on steep terrain, yet the platform's 4+1 magazine capacity and proven reliability make it a serious tool for backcountry hunters pursuing elk, mule deer, and other big game where every ounce matters and every shot must count.
The heart of the Backcountry 2.0 Carbon is its tensioned carbon fiber barrel—a design with a track record that speaks for itself. In internal testing, Weatherby recorded a 0.06-inch three-shot group at 100 yards using factory Select Plus ammunition, proof that lightweight doesn't mean compromised precision. The 24-inch #4 contour barrel is threaded and fitted with a titanium Accubrake ST, a muzzle brake engineered specifically for magnum cartridges. Its 30 symmetrically-spaced ports reduce felt recoil dramatically, making the 6.5 WBY RPM's magnum punch substantially more manageable than you'd expect from a rifle this light.
Weatherby stripped weight wherever possible without sacrificing strength or function. The Peak 44 Blacktooth carbon fiber stock is the lightest production carbon fiber stock available, and the bolt body features pronounced spiral fluting that reduces contact points inside the action for buttery-smooth cycling. The aluminum extended skeletonized bolt knob is both lightweight and positive in gloved hands. Recoil management comes from a second-generation 3DHEX pad—the first 3D-printed recoil pad in production firearms—whose engineered voids progressively collapse to stretch out the recoil impulse and kill the sharp sting of magnum shooting. All exposed metal on the action and barrel is sealed in Patriot Brown Cerakote, while the stock wears a complementary brown and dark green sponge pattern that breaks up the rifle's profile in the field.
This is a rifle for serious hunters who hunt hard country and demand equipment that doesn't quit. The Backcountry 2.0 Carbon proves you don't have to choose between reaching out and covering ground.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes the 6.5 WBY RPM a good choice for backcountry hunting?
The 6.5 WBY RPM delivers magnum-class power in a caliber known for excellent ballistics and manageable recoil—a strong combination for mountain hunting where shots may be long and conditions unpredictable. Paired with this rifle's accuracy record and weight, it's a capable choice for elk and mule deer hunting in remote terrain.
How does the 3DHEX recoil pad work?
The second-generation 3DHEX pad is a 3D-printed recoil pad with interlocking voids that progressively collapse during recoil. This design stretches out the recoil impulse over a longer period, reducing the sharp sting and felt recoil of magnum cartridges—a meaningful difference in a lightweight rifle.
