Tristar Viper Max 24189 12-Gauge 3.5" 28" Barrel Semi-Auto Shotgun - Bronze/Mossy Oak
TriStar
The TriStar Viper Max 12-gauge 3.5" shotgun is a gas-operated semi-automatic built for shooters who need flexibility across a wide range of loads—from light target rounds to heavy waterfowl magnums. The 28" barrel and synthetic stock deliver a balanced, durable platform at 7.4 lbs, making it manageable in the field without sacrificing reliability. Whether you're working a duck blind, breaking clays, or hunting upland, this shotgun's two-piston system adapts to your ammunition, so you're not locked into one load category.
What sets the Viper Max apart is its intelligent gas system. The included light and heavy load pistons let you dial in the right amount of cycling force for your shells—swap to the light piston for 2¾" target loads, or drop in the heavy piston for 3" and 3.5" magnums. The secondary piston stores neatly in the forearm for quick field changes. A chrome-lined chamber and barrel handle the corrosion and carbon buildup that comes with extended shooting, and the design cycles reliably without constant babying.
The removable choke system uses Beretta/Benelli threading and includes three choke tubes (IC, M, F) plus a wrench and storage box, so you can pattern for different game or swap on the fly. Fiber optic sights aid target acquisition in low light, and a ventilated rib with matted sight plane keeps glare down. The injection-molded stock and forearm are tough enough for hard use, backed by a five-year mechanical warranty on the recoil pad. Swivel studs are drilled and tapped for a sling, and the magazine cut-off lets you unload the chamber independently of the magazine—a practical safety feature when you need to transition between loads quickly.
Magazine capacity is 5 rounds with the included shot plug installed. The tubular magazine is bottom-loading, and the plug unscrews easily from the mag cap for quick conversion if you need the full tube. The safety sits on the backside of the trigger guard and locks out the trigger, hammer lever, and firing mechanism when engaged.

Yes. The Viper Max's two-piston system lets you swap between a light-load piston (for 2¾" shells) and a heavy-load piston (for 3" and 3.5" magnums). Store the secondary piston in the forearm for easy field changes.
Three choke tubes (Improved Cylinder, Modified, and Full) are included, along with a choke wrench and storage box. The system uses Beretta/Benelli threading, so you can source additional aftermarket tubes if needed.
Yes. The magazine cut-off button, located near the trigger guard, locks the lifter in place. Open the action and the shell in the chamber will eject while the bolt stays open and the magazine remains loaded—useful when transitioning between different loads or unloading safely.
The shotgun ships with a shot plug (pre-installed in the magazine), two load pistons (light and heavy), three choke tubes (IC, M, F), a choke wrench, and a choke tube storage box.
