The Taylors & Company Short Stroke Gun Fighter is a purpose-built .357 Magnum single-action revolver designed for shooters who demand both performance and authenticity. With its 5.5-inch barrel and classic profile, this revolver bridges the gap between competition shooters and collectors who appreciate a well-tuned, historically inspired firearm. The Short Stroke delivers the smooth, reliable action you'd expect from a modern single-action while honoring the cowboy-gun heritage that defines the category.

What sets the Short Stroke apart is the care taken in its execution. The blue finish pairs with a case-hardened frame for a timeless two-tone appearance, while the checkered walnut grip provides both comfort and purchase. Taylors & Company offers flexibility in hammer and grip choices: the low-set Smoke Wagon hammer or the lower, wider Runnin Iron profile for different shooting styles, plus an Army-style Gunfighter grip option for those who prefer a larger palm swell. The revolver features a widened sight channel and widened front blade, giving you a better sight picture whether you're drawing from leather or working a static range.

Serious shooters will want to consider the Taylor Tuned version, which transforms the Short Stroke into one of the smoothest-shooting single-actions available. Custom tuning includes precision hammer and base pin springs, a factory-set three-pound trigger pull, jig-cut positive angles on triggers and sears for crisp function, and a wire bolt spring. The result is reliable, predictable action—critical whether you're running a timed course of fire or just demanding excellence from every shot.

At 2.27 lbs and 11 inches overall, the Short Stroke carries and handles like a purpose-gun, not a replica. It chambers .357 Magnum with six-round capacity, giving you the ballistic flexibility to load it hot or dial it back with .38 Special if the situation calls for it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between the standard Short Stroke and the Taylor Tuned version?

The Taylor Tuned version includes custom action tuning with precision-cut hammer and base pin springs, a factory trigger pull set at three pounds, jig-cut positive angles on triggers and sears for crisp function, and a wire bolt spring. Standard versions ship with standard springs and trigger pull. Taylor Tuned revolvers are known for one of the smoothest hammer and trigger pulls in the single-action market, making them ideal for competition shooting or shooters who demand refined trigger control.

Can I use .38 Special ammunition in this revolver?

Yes. The Short Stroke is chambered in .357 Magnum, which safely fires both .357 Magnum and .38 Special ammunition. This gives you flexibility to load factory .38 Special for reduced recoil or practice, or full-power .357 loads for field use.

What hammer and grip options are available?

Taylors & Company offers the choice of two hammer profiles: the low-set Smoke Wagon hammer or the lower, wider Runnin Iron hammer. For grip, the revolver comes standard with a checkered walnut grip; an Army-style Gunfighter grip with a larger palm swell is also available. Both hammer and grip options are available on both standard and Taylor Tuned versions.

Is this revolver suitable for competition shooting?

Yes. The Short Stroke is purpose-designed for competition shooting, particularly in single-action revolver sports. The widened sight channel and front blade aid target acquisition, and the Taylor Tuned version's precision action tuning and three-pound trigger pull make it especially competitive on timed courses of fire.
