The Taurus M82 .38 Special revolver is a medium-frame, 6-shot wheelgun built for shooters who want a reliable, straightforward defensive or duty option. With a 4-inch barrel, the M82 strikes a practical balance between handling and velocity—compact enough for duty carry or home defense, yet long enough to deliver the performance .38 Special +P loads can provide. The blue finish gives it a classic look, and the fixed front sight keeps things simple and snag-free.
This is a double-action/single-action revolver that weighs 36.5 ounces, so it carries without excessive bulk but with enough heft to manage recoil. The smooth trigger and transfer bar safety make it user-friendly whether you're at the range or in a defensive situation. The rubber grips provide sure control, and the 6-groove rifling (1:16.5 twist) is optimized for .38 Special and .38 Special +P ammunition, so you have flexibility in your loading choices without worrying about over-stabilization or under-stabilization.
Taurus revolvers have earned a reputation for solid, no-frills performance at a reasonable price point. The M82 is purpose-built for shooters who value function over flash—law enforcement, armed professionals, and civilian defensive shooters all rely on .38 Special revolvers for their simplicity, reliability, and proven stopping power. If you shoot .38 Special, understand revolver fundamentals, and want a mid-size gun that does one thing well, the M82 deserves a hard look.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Taurus M82 rated for .38 Special +P ammunition?
Yes. The M82 is +P rated, which means it's rated for the higher-pressure .38 Special +P loads. That said, it also handles standard .38 Special ammunition perfectly well, giving you flexibility in what you shoot.
What's the typical use case for a 4-inch .38 revolver?
A 4-inch .38 revolver works well for defensive carry, duty use, or range shooting. The barrel length offers a decent velocity boost over shorter snubbies while keeping the gun reasonably portable. Many law enforcement agencies and armed professionals have carried similar guns for decades.
Can I shoot standard .38 Special in the M82, or do I need +P ammunition?
You can shoot either. The M82 is rated for +P, but standard .38 Special ammunition will function perfectly and may be easier on the gun and your hand over extended shooting sessions. Choose based on your needs and comfort.
What comes with the M82, and what do I need to buy separately?
The M82 comes with the revolver and rubber grips. You'll need to source ammunition, a holster, and any other gear separately based on your intended use.
