The Taurus 942 .22LR revolver pairs a compact 3-inch barrel with an 8-round cylinder, making it a natural choice for shooters who want a lightweight, low-recoil handgun for plinking, recreational shooting, or marksmanship practice. Its black matte finish resists glare and wear, and the modest footprint keeps it manageable in hand without sacrificing firepower for a rimfire platform.
Built on proven Taurus reliability, the 942 handles .22 Long Rifle ammunition efficiently—a caliber prized for its minimal kick, affordability, and suitability for new shooters or those refining their fundamentals. Whether you're zeroing technique at the range, introducing someone to handgun shooting, or looking for a fun, accurate .22 for informal target work, the 942 delivers what you need without the blast and recoil of larger centerfire rounds.
The 3-inch barrel strikes a practical balance: short enough for easy handling and storage, long enough to wring decent velocity and sight radius from .22LR rounds. The eight-shot capacity—a step up from typical five-shot .22 revolvers—means fewer reloads during a session, which adds to the appeal for extended range time or training drills.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Taurus 942 .22LR revolver best used for?
The 942 is ideal for recreational range shooting, precision practice, marksmanship training, and introducing new shooters to handgun fundamentals. Its low recoil and minimal report make it comfortable for extended sessions, and its accuracy potential suits both casual plinking and deliberate skill work.
How does the 3-inch barrel compare to longer or shorter revolvers?
The 3-inch barrel provides a balance between maneuverability and sight radius. It's compact enough to handle easily but long enough to deliver practical velocity and accuracy at typical target distances, making it a versatile middle ground for recreational shooting.
Why choose an 8-round .22 revolver over a semi-automatic?
Revolvers are inherently reliable, require minimal maintenance, and tolerate a wide range of .22LR ammunition without feeding issues. The 942's eight-round capacity offers more shots per cylinder than traditional five-shot .22 revolvers, while the revolver platform remains simple and dependable.
Is the black matte finish durable for regular use?
The black matte finish is designed to withstand regular handling and use, resisting light wear and glare better than polished finishes. For details on long-term durability and care, refer to the manufacturer's documentation.
