The Taurus 856 Ultra-Lite is a compact .38 Special +P revolver built for shooters who need serious stopping power in a pocket-friendly package. At just 16 ounces with a 2-inch barrel, this small-frame six-shooter delivers the reliability of a traditional double-action/single-action revolver without the weight penalty that comes with larger carry guns. Whether you're looking for a backup revolver, a deep-concealment option for everyday carry, or a dependable trail gun for overlanding and backcountry trips, the 856 Ultra-Lite balances shootability with genuine portability.

The matte natural anodized finish with gold accents gives this revolver a distinctive, rugged aesthetic that stands apart from typical snub-nosed revolvers. The small frame keeps the gun compact enough to disappear in a jacket pocket or waistband holster, while the fixed rear sight and serrated ramp front sight are fast to acquire in close-quarters scenarios where a pocket revolver typically operates. Transfer bar safety keeps the gun secure in a holster or pack, and the DA/SA trigger action lets you carry cocked and locked or use the lighter single-action break for more precision work at the range.

Build your carry or backup setup around a revolver that doesn't require a tool belt to conceal. With .38 +P capability, you get more terminal performance than standard .38 loads, and six rounds in the cylinder means one more shot than typical five-shot pocket guns. The 856 Ultra-Lite is straightforward and honest—no fuss, no electronic safeties, no magazine to lose.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Taurus 856 Ultra-Lite suitable for concealed carry and everyday defense?

Yes. At 16 ounces and 6.55 inches overall, this revolver is purpose-built for deep concealment in a pocket holster, ankle rig, or inside-the-waistband carry. The .38 Special +P chambering provides legitimate defensive performance in a package that won't fatigue you during all-day carry.

What ammunition does the 856 Ultra-Lite fire?

The 856 Ultra-Lite is chambered in .38 Special +P, which means it safely fires both standard .38 Special and the hotter +P loads for increased velocity and energy. Always verify your ammunition matches this specification.

How does the double-action/single-action trigger work?

You can carry the gun with the hammer down and fire it in full double-action mode (longer, heavier trigger press), which is the safest carry method. Once the hammer is cocked—either by manually thumbing it or by the first DA shot—you can use the lighter single-action trigger for faster follow-up shots or precision work at the range.

What sights are on this revolver?

The 856 Ultra-Lite features a fixed rear sight and a serrated ramp front sight. Both are designed for quick target acquisition at the close distances typical of defensive revolver use. They're not adjustable, so elevation and windage are fixed from the factory.
