The Taurus 856 Ultra-Lite .38 Special revolver is a compact, lightweight defensive handgun built for shooters who need reliable stopping power without bulk. Chambered in .38 Special +P, this 2-inch snub-nose revolver tips the scales at just 16 ounces unloaded—making it an easy carry choice for appendix, ankle, or off-body options. The 6-round cylinder gives you a practical capacity for self-defense, while the single/double-action mechanism delivers familiarity and flexibility. This is working revolver for concealed carry, backup, or home defense, built on a proven platform and priced to own.

The 856 Ultra-Lite pairs an alloy frame with a carbon steel cylinder and a matte stainless finish that resists corrosion without drawing attention. The serrated ramp front sight and fixed rear sight are straightforward and functional—no snag hazards or complex adjustments. VZ Operator II black grips come installed, giving you a secure hold even under stress or in wet conditions. Transfer bar safety prevents the gun from firing if dropped, adding a layer of mechanical safety that experienced revolver shooters appreciate.

At 6.55 inches overall length, the 856 Ultra-Lite vanishes in an IWB holster or fits easily in a coat pocket when backup is the mission. The double-action trigger breaks at 10–12 pounds, requiring deliberate pressure to fire—a feature that suits defensive use and helps prevent unintentional discharge during high-stress moments. This is not a target gun or a competition rig; it's a no-frills revolver built to be carried and, if necessary, fired quickly and repeatedly in a fight.

Whether you're a seasoned revolver hand looking for lightweight concealed carry or a new shooter who values simplicity and reliability over modern ergonomics, the Taurus 856 Ultra-Lite delivers solid value. The alloy-frame design keeps weight down without sacrificing the durability of a steel cylinder, and the fixed-sight system means there's nothing to zero or get knocked out of place.

Frequently Asked Questions

What ammunition does the Taurus 856 Ultra-Lite accept?

The 856 Ultra-Lite is chambered in .38 Special +P, which means it can safely fire both standard .38 Special and +P loads. Always consult your owner's manual and ammunition manufacturer guidance for safe load selection.

Is this revolver suitable for concealed carry?

Yes. At 16 ounces unloaded and 6.55 inches in overall length, the 856 Ultra-Lite is designed for concealed carry in an inside-the-waistband holster, ankle holster, or off-body option. The short barrel and compact profile make it easy to carry daily without printing or discomfort.

What safety features does the 856 Ultra-Lite have?

The revolver includes a transfer bar safety mechanism that prevents firing if the gun is dropped. This is a passive safety system—there is no external safety lever or button to manipulate, so the gun is ready to fire simply by pulling the trigger.

Can I adjust the sights on the 856 Ultra-Lite?

No. The serrated ramp front sight and fixed rear sight are not adjustable. They come regulated from the factory for use with standard .38 Special ammunition and are designed to be simple and reliable, with no moving parts to get knocked out of alignment.
