The Taurus 856 Small .38 Special +P revolver is a purpose-built concealed-carry handgun that combines classic revolver reliability with modern self-defense features. Built on Taurus's proven small-frame platform, the 856 chambers the proven .38 Special +P cartridge and holds six rounds in its steel-alloy cylinder—enough capacity for serious defensive work in a compact package that tucks easily into an IWB holster, ankle rig, or jacket pocket. The oxide finish on the barrel, cylinder, and frame resists corrosion in everyday carry environments, whether you're commuting through the city or spending time outdoors.

What sets this specific variant apart is the integrated Viridian red grip laser. That's a dual-sighting system that lets you run iron sights during daylight or low-light scenarios—serrated ramp front sight and fixed rear sight work exactly as designed for point-and-shoot defensive shooting—while the grip laser gives you a backup aiming reference and a measurable edge in dim light or high-stress situations. The laser is activated by your natural grip, so there's no fumbling for a separate switch.

The 856 runs double-action/single-action with a spurred hammer, giving you flexibility in how you deploy it. The transfer bar safety keeps the firing pin secure until the trigger is fully pressed. At 22.6 ounces and 6.55 inches overall length, it's compact without feeling toy-sized—the small frame is genuinely meant for shooters with modest hand sizes or those who prioritize deep concealment over ergonomic real estate. The 2-inch barrel gets the job done for its intended role, though it's not a target gun. One cylinder ships with the revolver.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Taurus 856 a good concealed-carry revolver?

Yes. The 856's small frame, light weight, and 2-inch barrel are purpose-built for concealed carry. The oxide finish is corrosion-resistant for everyday use, and .38 Special +P is a proven defensive round. The integrated grip laser adds a modern sighting tool without increasing size or complexity.

What's the difference between the grip laser and the iron sights?

Both are always on the gun. The serrated ramp front and fixed rear sights work in any light condition and require no batteries. The Viridian grip laser activates when you grip the revolver, giving you a red dot reference that's especially useful in dim light or high-stress scenarios. It's a backup aiming system, not a replacement.

Can I shoot .38 Special standard pressure ammo in the 856, or only +P?

The gun is rated for .38 Special +P. For information on shooting standard-pressure .38 Special, contact Taurus directly or consult your manual.

What comes in the box?

The revolver ships with one cylinder and the Viridian grip laser already installed. No separate manual or accessory information is provided in these facts.
