- Barrel Length:
- 23.6"
- Barrel Length Range:
- 23" to 23.99"
The Steyr SSG 08 in .300 Win Mag is a purpose-built bolt-action rifle for long-range shooters who demand precision, adjustability, and rugged reliability. Built on a cold-hammer-forged heavy barrel with a 1:10 twist, this 23.6-inch rifle combines Austrian engineering with the stopping power of a magnum cartridge—ideal for extended-distance hunting, tactical training, and precision target work where every adjustment matters.
What sets the SSG 08 apart is its extensively adjustable hard aluminum stock. Drop at comb ranges from +0.85 to −0.9 inches, drop at heel from +1.07 to −3.8 inches, and comb movements offer 0.5 inches of fore-aft travel plus lateral rotation. Pair that with a minimum length of pull of 14.25 inches (with 0.33-inch adjustment inserts available), and you can dial in a fit for your frame and shooting position. The single-stage trigger breaks at 3 pounds 8 ounces and is user-adjustable—a huge asset when you're chasing tiny groups at distance.
The rifle ships with a full 8-round polymer double-stack magazine, integral 15.9-inch Picatinny rail for scope mounting, and a Mannox finish that shrugs off the elements. At 12 pounds 2 ounces empty, it's substantial enough to manage magnum recoil without breaking your shoulder, thanks to the 0.8-inch elastomer recoil pad. The stock folds to 38.3 inches for transport or tight spaces, and removable push-and-turn sling swivels keep your carry options open.
Steyr included an HD bipod, hard travel case, and sling swivels straight out of the box—everything a serious long-range shooter expects. Whether you're building a competition rifle, setting up a hunting platform, or need a platform-agnostic bolt gun for the range, the SSG 08 gives you the mechanical precision and adjustment range that usually demand custom gunsmithing.

Frequently Asked Questions
What scope should I mount on the Steyr SSG 08?
The rifle features a full-length integral Picatinny rail (15.9 inches), so any modern scope with standard Picatinny rings will work. For .300 Win Mag at distance, most shooters choose 4–16x or higher magnification optics. Steyr ships the gun without iron sights, so a quality scope is essential.
Is the stock really adjustable, or is it marketing hype?
The adjustments are genuine and extensive. You can dial comb height up or down nearly 2 inches, move the comb fore and aft by half an inch, adjust overall length of pull with included inserts, and even rotate the comb for lateral alignment. This level of fit tuning is typically found on precision competition and tactical rifles costing significantly more.
Can I fold the stock, and how compact does it get?
Yes. The stock folds for transport or confined spaces, reducing overall length to 38.3 inches—much easier to fit in a vehicle, backpack, or hard case without sacrificing the rifle's full adjustability when deployed.
What's included in the box?
Steyr includes an owner's manual, an HD bipod, a hard travel case, and removable push-and-turn sling swivels. You'll need to supply a scope and rings, ammunition, and cleaning supplies—everything else is ready to go.
