The SCCY CPX-2 Gen 3 9mm pistol is a compact, reliable double-action-only semi-automatic built for shooters who want simplicity without compromise. Whether you're a first-time pistol buyer looking for a straightforward, no-frills firearm or an experienced shooter who appreciates solid ergonomics and dependable performance, this 9mm delivers. The third generation brings meaningful upgrades to an already popular platform: a Picatinny rail for light or laser attachment, improved ergonomic grip design, and refined sights that make it easier to get on target quickly.

At just 15 ounces with a 3.1-inch barrel and 6-inch overall length, the CPX-2 Gen 3 strikes a practical balance—compact enough for concealed carry or home defense, but not so tiny that it's uncomfortable in hand or difficult to shoot well. The stainless steel slide resists corrosion, and the polymer frame keeps weight down without sacrificing durability. A 10+1 round capacity gives you enough firepower for most defensive scenarios without creating an oversized package.

The DAO (double-action-only) trigger has a 9-pound pull, which promotes safety and consistency. Every trigger press feels the same, eliminating the transition from safety to first shot that semi-automatic actions require. That simplicity is intentional: fewer moving parts mean fewer things to go wrong or maintain. The G-43 style sights help you align your shot fast, whether in daylight or low light. And if you prefer a red-dot sight, this model is red-dot ready via the Picatinny rail.

The purple and silver finish isn't just eye-catching—it makes your pistol easy to identify and less likely to be mistaken for someone else's firearm in a busy range or training environment. Built to work, not impress, the CPX-2 Gen 3 has earned respect from shooters who value honest design and honest price.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the CPX-2 Gen 3 good for concealed carry?

Yes. At 15 ounces with a 6-inch length and 1.1-inch width, it's compact and light enough for appendix, waistband, or pocket carry depending on your rig. The DAO trigger also promotes safe carry without external safeties to manage.

Can I add a red-dot sight to this pistol?

The CPX-2 Gen 3 comes with G-43 style 3-dot iron sights and is red-dot ready, meaning it has a Picatinny rail on the frame for mounting compatible lights, lasers, or red-dot optics.

What is DAO (double-action-only) and why does it matter?

DAO means every trigger press—first shot or follow-up—requires the full 9-pound pull. There's no single-action mode or safety lever to disengage. This design is inherently safer and simplifies operation: you train one trigger, one mindset, every time.

Is the CPX-2 Gen 3 a good first pistol?

It's designed with first-time buyers in mind. The straightforward DAO action eliminates confusion, the compact size is manageable, and the 9mm cartridge is common, affordable, and practical. Experienced shooters also appreciate its simplicity and reliability.
