The Savage 93R17 Minimalist is a lightweight bolt-action rimfire rifle built for shooters who value precision and modern ergonomics without unnecessary bulk. Chambered in .17 HMR, this rifle delivers the flat trajectory and minimal drift that make the cartridge a favorite for varmint work and small-game hunting. The brown laminate wood stock and matte black carbon steel barrel give it a clean, purposeful look—no frills, just honest engineering.

At 5.48 pounds, the Minimalist won't wear you out on long days in the field or at the range. The 18-inch carbon steel barrel is button-rifled for consistent accuracy and threaded 1/2-28 for suppressor compatibility. Savage's user-adjustable AccuTrigger lets you dial the pull weight between 2.5 and 6 pounds, so you can tailor the trigger break to your preference and shooting style. The detachable 10-round magazine keeps reloading quick and simple, while the two-piece Weaver bases are ready for your optic of choice.

The thumbhole laminate stock is built to handle the elements—the wood-laminated construction resists warping and is easier to maintain than traditional walnut. The 13.75-inch length of pull works well for most adult shooters and many younger hunters with a proper setup. Whether you're zeroing in on prairie dogs, tuning your handloads at 100 yards, or introducing someone to precision rimfire shooting, the Minimalist delivers Savage's reputation for accuracy in a compact, no-nonsense platform.

Frequently Asked Questions

What optics can I mount on this rifle?

The Savage 93R17 Minimalist comes with two-piece Weaver bases already installed on the receiver. Any scope or optic with Weaver or Picatinny rings will fit directly—no gunsmithing needed. A quality low-power variable (like 2-7x or 3-9x) is popular for varmint shooting, or go with a fixed-power scope if you prefer simplicity.

Can I use a suppressor on the Minimalist?

Yes. The barrel is threaded 1/2-28, which is the standard thread pitch for .17 HMR suppressors. A suppressor will quiet the shot and reduce recoil—both welcome on a lightweight rimfire like this one.

What's included in the box?

You get the rifle with the two-piece Weaver bases, the detachable 10-round magazine, and a threaded cap. Scope, rings, ammunition, and any other accessories are sold separately.

Is the .17 HMR good for hunting?

The .17 HMR is excellent for varmints and small game—coyotes, prairie dogs, rabbits, and similar. Its flat trajectory and minimal recoil make it fun and accurate at 100+ yards. It's not a legal choice for larger game in most states, so check your local regulations for your intended use.
