The Nosler M48 Independence is a 7mm-08 bolt-action rifle built for hunters who want a compact, handy platform that doesn't sacrifice capability. With a 15" barrel, this rifle is maneuverable in thick country and from a truck, yet the 7mm-08 chambering delivers proven hunting performance on deer, elk, and medium game at reasonable distances. Nosler's M48 line is known for accuracy and reliability, and the Independence variant prioritizes portability without compromising on the fundamentals that make a rifle trustworthy in the field.
The 15" barrel length makes the M48 Independence an appealing choice for hunters working brushy terrain, navigating tight spaces in camp or vehicle, or anyone who values a shorter overall package. The 7mm-08 is a sensible, efficient cartridge—less recoil than a .308 but with excellent ballistics and downrange energy for ethical hunting at moderate ranges. This combination of compact form factor and proven accuracy makes the Independence a practical rifle for backcountry trips, truck racks, and hunters who move between stands or glassing points throughout the day.
Nosler rifles are manufactured to exacting standards and are known for shooting tight groups out of the box. If you're looking for a dependable, easy-to-carry hunting rifle that performs when it counts, the M48 Independence deserves serious consideration.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Nosler M48 Independence suitable for hunting?
Yes. The 7mm-08 chambering is a proven hunting cartridge for deer, elk, and similar-sized game at moderate distances, and the M48 Independence's compact 15" barrel makes it well-suited for field hunting in brush, timber, or mountainous terrain.
What makes a 15" barrel rifle practical for hunting?
A shorter barrel reduces overall length and weight, making the rifle easier to maneuver through dense cover, pack in a vehicle, and carry during long days of glassing and hiking. The trade-off is some velocity loss compared to longer barrels, but the 7mm-08 remains effective at typical hunting ranges.
Is the Nosler M48 Independence known for accuracy?
Nosler's M48 rifles are manufactured to tight tolerances and have a reputation for reliable accuracy. Whether a particular rifle will meet your accuracy expectations depends on your specific unit, ammunition, and shooting technique, so we recommend shooting it yourself before relying on it for hunting.
