The Nosler M21 bolt-action rifle in 280 Ackley Improved is a modern production rifle built to deliver custom-grade precision and reliability without the custom-build price tag or wait time. Developed in collaboration with Mack Brothers—the respected South Dakota gunsmiths behind the EVO action—the M21 combines field-proven engineering with premium components that appeal equally to long-range hunters and precision shooters. At 7.1 pounds with a 24-inch barrel and 44.5-inch overall length, it's designed to be genuinely packable without sacrificing the stiffness and accuracy that matter on tough hunts.

The 280 Ackley Improved chambering gives you the velocity and ballistic performance to reach out on game while staying in a practical, bolt-action format. The rifle's action—the real heart of any firearm—draws the best features from Mack Brothers' acclaimed EVO design and layers on Nosler's own refinements. That foundation matters; it's what separates a rifle that merely shoots straight from one that shoots straight consistently, through elevation changes, temperature swings, and the chaos of a real hunt. The four-round magazine capacity is typical for the caliber and action length.

Build quality here is where the M21 earns its reputation. Wire EDM machining on the receiver ensures tight tolerances and durability. The bolt is nitride coated and fluted for corrosion resistance and smooth cycling. A Shilen match-grade stainless barrel promises accuracy from day one. The TriggerTech trigger is user-adjustable and designed for clean, predictable breaks—essential for precision work. A McMillan carbon fiber stock delivers a rigid, lightweight platform that won't shift or warp in the field. This is the kind of component list you'd specify on a custom rifle; Nosler put it into a production gun.

Whether you're planning a high-country elk hunt, a long-range target session, or building a precision rifle that will run reliably for years, the M21 in 280 Ackley Improved is a serious, no-excuses choice.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the real-world accuracy potential of the M21 in 280 Ackley Improved?

The M21 is built around premium components—Shilen match-grade barrel, wire EDM receiver, and TriggerTech trigger—that are designed to deliver consistent precision out of the box. The 280 Ackley Improved, with its flat trajectory and velocity, is well-suited to precision rifle work. Actual performance will depend on ammunition, shooter skill, and conditions, but the rifle's engineering is dialed for accuracy.

Is the M21 suitable for long-range hunting?

Yes. The 280 Ackley Improved offers excellent ballistics for extended-range hunting, and the M21's lightweight, packable profile, rigid stock, and precision trigger make it a practical choice for serious hunters pursuing game at distance. The compact overall length and 7.1-pound weight are genuine advantages on long stalks.

What comes with the rifle, and is it ready to shoot out of the box?

The M21 is a complete, assembled rifle. You'll need to add optics and a mounting system to shoot. The TriggerTech trigger is user-adjustable, so you can tune the break weight to your preference.

Can the length of pull or stock be adjusted or customized?

The rifle ships with a 13.5-inch length of pull. The McMillan carbon fiber stock is engineered as part of the M21's platform; we recommend consulting with a gunsmith if custom fitting is needed.
