The Mossberg 500 All-Purpose Field .410 shotgun (Model 50104) is a reliable, versatile pump-action shotgun built for hunters and sport shooters who want proven performance without breaking the bank. The .410 bore makes this 500 an excellent choice for upland bird hunting, small-game applications, and shooters who prefer lighter recoil—especially younger hunters or those new to shotguns. Like all Mossberg 500 models, this gun is engineered to mil-spec standards and backed by the brand's reputation for durability across millions of firearms in the field.

The 24-inch barrel keeps the gun maneuverable in brush and timber while the wood furniture gives it classic shotgun handling. At 6.25 pounds, it's light enough for a full day afield without fatigue. The twin bead sight lets you pick your target naturally, and the 6-round capacity gives you reasonable follow-up shots when you need them. The ambidextrous safety means lefties and righties can operate the gun intuitively, and the dual-action bars cycle reliably in the field. An overall length of 43.75 inches makes it proportional for most hunters, and the 3-inch chamber accepts modern ammunition with room to spare.

One of the 500's defining strengths is modularity—if you later want to pursue different game or switch between hunting and range work, you can change barrels and choke tubes to adapt the gun to the task. That all-purpose DNA is built in from the factory, which is why the 500 platform has earned the trust of hunters across North America for decades. Whether you're pursuing rabbits and squirrels or working upland edges, the .410 500 delivers.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Mossberg 500 .410 best used for?

The .410 bore and 24-inch barrel make this model well-suited for upland bird hunting, small-game pursuits, and training new or recoil-sensitive shooters. Its lighter recoil and nimble handling work well in brush and timber. It can also serve sport or target shooting roles.

Can I swap barrels and chokes on this shotgun?

Yes. The Mossberg 500 platform is modular—you can change barrels and choke tubes to adapt the gun for different hunting scenarios or shooting purposes, which is one of the core strengths of the 500 design.

Is the safety operable for both right- and left-handed shooters?

Yes. The ambidextrous safety can be operated comfortably by shooters of either hand orientation.

What ammunition does the 3-inch chamber accept?

The 3-inch chamber is designed for modern .410 ammunition. Consult the manual or a firearms professional to confirm specific ammunition compatibility and recommended loads.
