The Kel-Tec Sub-2000 9mm carbine is a compact, semi-automatic rifle built for hunters, backpackers, and shooters who refuse to sacrifice capability for portability. Chambered in 9x19mm and fitted with a 16-inch barrel, this blued/black finished carbine bridges the gap between a full-size rifle and a defensive handgun—accepting the same magazines as your Glock 17 or 19, which means less gear to carry and one ammunition supply chain to manage. At just 4.2 pounds unloaded, it's light enough to pack without complaint, yet accurate and manageable enough for small game, target work, or truck gun duty.
The defining feature is the fold: the Sub-2000 collapses completely in half to just 16.15 inches, turning a 30.45-inch rifle into something that fits under a truck seat, in a backpack, or in tight storage. No special tools required. Field stripping for cleaning or inspection is equally straightforward—you're not fighting proprietary designs or wrestling with springs. That simplicity makes this carbine genuinely practical for trips into the backcountry where weight and space matter, or for overlanders and hunters who value versatility without complexity.
The 1:10 twist rate stabilizes 9mm bullets efficiently, and the 5-pound trigger break is crisp enough for accurate shooting without being hair-trigger finicky. This isn't a high-speed tactical platform; it's a purpose-built, no-nonsense carbine for people who prioritize function and portability over accessory rail real estate. If you're tired of compromise and want a 9mm rifle that actually goes where you go, the Sub-2000 delivers.

How compact does it actually fold?

Yes. The Sub-2000 is designed for tool-free field stripping, making maintenance straightforward in the field or at home. No special tools or armorers required for routine cleaning and inspection.
Is the Sub-2000 good for hunting?
